‘Supergirl’ Trailer Teases DC Superhero’s Planet-Hopping Mission of Revenge

Get ready for a new kind of hero! Instead of looking up to Superman, it’s time to watch out for Supergirl, who’s back in a thrilling new trailer for the next DC Universe film directed by James Gunn. Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, stars as Supergirl, following a brief appearance in last year’s Superman movie. The trailer gives us the best look yet at how this Supergirl will be different from her more optimistic cousin. As she puts it, Superman sees the best in people, but she sees things as they really are.

The new series Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl. She’s joined by Eve Ridley (known from 3 Body Problem and The Witcher) as her friend Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, The Old Guard 2) as the villain Krem, and David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer, The Studio) as Supergirl’s father, Zor-El. Emily Beecham (King & Conqueror) plays Supergirl’s mother, Alura In-Ze, and Krypto the Superdog also appears. The show aims to establish Supergirl as a unique hero, separate from Superman, and show audiences that she’s more than just a female version of him.

The latest clips clearly show that Milly Alcock’s Supergirl is very different from David Corenswet’s Superman, finally breaking the expectation that she’s a copy of her cousin. We see a disillusioned and world-weary hero haunted by past trauma, who’s driven to a mission of vengeance and rescue when Krypto is poisoned with a dangerous toxin. As many action movies have proven, harming an animal—especially a beloved pet—is a sure way to motivate a hero.

As a huge DC fan, I’m genuinely excited about this new take on Supergirl – it feels so much more compelling than anything we’ve seen on the big screen before! But even bigger, this movie seems poised to really expand the DC Universe, sending Supergirl out into the galaxy. And that’s where things get really interesting, because we finally get Jason Momoa as Lobo! I’ve known he’s wanted to play this role for years – even before he was Aquaman – and the trailer proves he was born for it. He just is Lobo – effortlessly capturing that brutally violent, foul-mouthed, alien biker vibe. It’s easily the best look we’ve had at his take on the character, and honestly, it’s fantastic.

The new Supergirl movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 26, 2026, as part of the first phase of the DC Universe (DCU).
