Supergirl Officially Confirms The Biggest Villain Design Change In The DCU So Far

As a huge DC fan, I was blown away by the new Supergirl trailer! It looks like we’re getting the biggest villain redesign in the DC Universe so far. And it’s exciting to think that, as the second movie in this new timeline, Supergirl is really building out this bigger, connected world they’re aiming for – hopefully delivering awesome stories while doing it!

The first trailer for Supergirl suggests the movie is off to a strong start. It gives us a sneak peek at how the film will explore Supergirl’s origins and set up her future. We’ve already learned about one significant change to her backstory and gotten a glimpse of a key villain.

Supergirl’s Main Villain Has Had A Huge Design Change From The Comics

The first trailer for Supergirl has given us a glimpse of Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills. While the movie appears to be largely following the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, this version of Krem looks noticeably different from the character as originally presented in the comic.

In the comic books, Krem of the Yellow Hills is known for his full red beard and hair. However, the trailer for Supergirl shows a very different version of the character: he’s bald and has metal beads pierced all over his face, with metal structures added around his eyes.

It’s interesting to note that most DC villains we’ve seen in the DCU so far have looked very similar to their comic book counterparts. This new design choice suggests there might be a bigger reason behind this character’s change in appearance.

Why The DCU Changes Krem Of The Yellow Hills’ Comic Design

The main storyline of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow centers on Supergirl and Ruthye chasing the villain Krem across the universe. Krem becomes increasingly dangerous as he teams up with Barbond’s Brigands, a ruthless group of space pirates infamous for destroying planets and killing everyone on them.

I’ve been thinking about the trailer, and it struck me that the version of Krem we see might be how he looks after he officially joins the Brigands. It’s a clever way to visually show his allegiance, because unlike the comics, the trailer can’t just tell us he’s joined – it has to show us!

The distinctive look of Supergirl in the trailer might just be to make her stand out. It’s similar to how Lobo was included in the movie, even though he wasn’t in the original comic – a change made to give the DCU film a unique feel. Hopefully, we’ll soon find out more about why these changes were made to the character of Krem.
