According to a post on Instagram by actor David Krumholtz, it appears that filming for the second movie in James Gunn’s new DC cinematic universe is nearing completion at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studio. This upcoming film is scheduled to be released in theaters in June 2026.
Krumholtz’s Instagram post revealed a couple of chair shots from set, where the back reads his character’s name and also mentions the father of another character. He acknowledged Alcock, who previously played a young Rhaenyra in “Game of Thrones” and now plays the lead Kryptonian in this movie. Additionally, he mentioned Emily Beecham, his on-screen spouse from “1899”. Krumholtz, fresh from Christopher Nolan’s production, thanked director Craig Gillespie as well as DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn. The second image in the Instagram series displayed a chair back with an updated logo that simply read “Supergirl” over the El family crest.
Krumholtz made it clear that the logo in question is simply for a chair, but the image of the Supergirl logo has sparked excitement among fans who speculate that this film may discard its subtitle “The Woman of Tomorrow” and adopt a more straightforward title. This is reminiscent of Gunn’s upcoming movie, which was originally titled “Superman: Legacy.” Dropping the subtitle gives his film a classic touch on the big screen. However, it doesn’t have to be “Superman: Legacy,” as Gunn’s DCU represents a complete reboot of the franchise – there will only be one Superman movie. The same may apply to the Supergirl film led by Alcock, though it remains unconfirmed whether
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Is Based on the Tom King Comic
Supergirl: The Galactic Journey is inspired by a 2021 comic book series sharing the same title, where Kara Zor-El undertakes a mission across space in pursuit of justice. This comic miniseries was written by Tom King, known for penning Batman, Rorschach, and Wonder Woman comics, and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Accompanied on her cosmic journey is Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl whose father was slain by the space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills. At this point, it remains undecided how closely the movie will follow the comic miniseries’ storyline, but the cast includes Eve Ridley as Ruthye and Matthias Schoenaerts portraying Krem.
The movie additionally features Jason Momoa, fulfilling years of fan anticipation in his portrayal of Lobo. This Czarnian mercenary and bounty hunter will make his cinematic debut, despite not appearing in the initial comics, suggesting that certain creative freedoms are being exercised with the narrative. The screenplay for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is penned by Ana Nogueira, who is also writing another script within Gunn’s emerging film franchise.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to premiere June 26, 2026.
