“Superb” John Wick spin-off with “near-constant action” has just landed on Prime Video

The action movie Ballerina, a spin-off of John Wick and starring Ana de Armas, is now available to stream in the UK. It’s a thrilling story with a returning character and is being called a fantastic choice for a weekend movie night.

In the 2025 action movie, Ana de Armas plays Eve Macarro, a ballerina who learns to become an assassin with the help of the Ruska Roma. Driven by the desire to avenge her father’s murder, she embarks on a dangerous mission for revenge.

The action movie Ballerina, which earned over $137 million in cinemas worldwide after its June release, is now streaming on Prime Video in the UK, starting today, January 10th.

The film’s cast features Ana de Armas alongside Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick are also returning from previous John Wick movies.

Although not as famous as other films in the series, Ballerina received generally positive reviews. Currently, 75% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes recommend it, based on 306 reviews. Viewers seem to like it even more, with a 92% audience score.

Critics agree that Ballerina is a welcome addition to the John Wick universe, starring a tough Ana de Armas, inventive fight scenes, and a surprisingly fun backstory.

Digital Spy gave the film a three-star review, highlighting the impressive action choreography, though we felt there was simply too much of it. We noted that viewers might find themselves wanting fewer action scenes, even with Keanu Reeves playing his famous, beloved assassin.

While Eve isn’t quite as strong a character as John Wick, Ana de Armas delivers a captivating performance that stands on its own. When she’s creatively using weapons like flamethrowers and grenades, you completely forget about Wick.

According to a review in The New Statesman, the film Ballerina is excellent – a fast-paced, intense thriller with a remarkably high number of deaths occurring very early on, all within the first thirty minutes.

While Ballerina is one spin-off from the John Wick series, it’s not the only one. The prequel series The Continental was released on Prime Video in 2023. Plus, there’s a movie planned that will focus on Donnie Yen’s character, Caine, and another spin-off will be an animated prequel.
