The beloved movie “Bend It Like Beckham,” originally released in the ’00s, is preparing to find a new streaming platform in the UK before the release of its upcoming sequel.
Introduced in 2002, the film titled “Bend It Like Beckham” features “ER” actor Parminder Nagra portraying a young character who defies her family’s expectations by joining a local football club.
16-year-old Jess yearns to play soccer, but her family believes it’s inappropriate for an Indian girl of her age to do so on the playing field.
Alongside Nagra in this production are Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anupam Kher, Archie Panjabi, Shaznay Lewis, Frank Harper, Juliet Stevenson, Shaheen Khan, and Ameet Chana as well.
Under the direction of Gurinder Chadha, who has recently revealed plans for a follow-up, the popular movie Bend It Like Beckham is set to join Netflix’s library in the United Kingdom starting from August 15th.
On Saturdays announcement, Chadha shared with Deadline: “I’m thrilled to delve back into the original characters and resurrect the timeless tale, while further expanding upon the lasting impact we made in the world of women’s sports.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my anticipation about the possibility of the original cast returning for the upcoming sequel. The director has mentioned that they are cognizant of the project’s progression, yet they are eagerly waiting to lay their eyes on the script before making any decisions about their involvement.
The film “Bend It Like Beckham” boasts an impressive 85% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 157 reviews. Critics have singled out the lead actors for praise, and also commended Gurinder Chadha’s directorial skills.
According to Common Sense Media, this movie tells an exceptional story about a girl’s fight for her aspirations. In contrast, The Los Angeles Times deemed it as an intelligent, vivacious, and ultimately heartwarming comedic drama.

Bend It Like Beckham will be added to Netflix in the UK on 15 August.
