‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ First Reactions Emerge Before Tomorrow’s Release

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about the new Mario movie! It’s been three years since the first one was a massive hit, and now Mario and Luigi are back in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. They’re bringing back all the original voice actors that everyone loved – the first film was only beaten by Barbie at the box office in 2023, which is incredible! But they’re also adding some amazing new faces like Brie Larson as Rosalina, Donald Glover as Yoshi, and even Glen Powell as Fox McCloud. Plus, the story is taking us way beyond the Mushroom Kingdom this time, so it feels like this sequel could be even bigger and better than the first one.

With the release of the new Super Mario movie just around the corner on April 1st, more and more previews have been revealed, giving fans a taste of the story and exciting new scenes. Now, after early showings of the film, the initial reactions are very positive.

After early screenings of The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, critics took to social media to share their first impressions. The response was largely very positive, with reviewers saying they especially enjoyed the characters, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Bowser.

Junior Felix, editor-in-chief of That Hashtag Show, praised the movie as a wonderfully nostalgic sequel and expressed his complete enjoyment of it. Jonathan Sim from ComingSoon agreed, stating the sequel surpassed the original with more impressive action sequences and calling it a beautiful tribute to Mario fans.

The film deeply impressed Manuel São Bento, who felt it showed that “cinema can still transport us back to childhood.” He praised the movie’s amazing animation, heartwarming music, and flawless performances. Christopher Gallardo described it as “whimsical, vibrant, and fun,” particularly highlighting Jack Black’s performance as Bowser and Donald Glover as Yoshi.

Hunter Bolding from That Hashtag Show described the movie as visually stunning, full of vibrant color and impressive imagery, and highlighted Glen Powell’s excellent performance. Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky noted the sequel is filled with hidden references for fans and praised its fast-paced, delightfully chaotic energy.

It’s not surprising this movie is getting such a great response, given how enthusiastic the cast was about the project. The early previews suggest it captures the spirit of the original story, and with a talented cast playing iconic video game characters, Universal Pictures is clearly committed to making a high-quality film.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will debut in theaters on Apr. 1, 2026.
