Who will be playing in the Super Bowl?
In a fascinating turn of events, the Philadelphia Eagles will go head-to-head with the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time these two teams have faced off – it was just six years ago, in February 2023, when the Chiefs emerged victorious over the Eagles by a score of 38-35 during Super Bowl LVII.
Kansas City aims to make history by being the initial team to secure three straight Super Bowl victories, having triumphed over the Buffalo Bills with a score of 32-29 in the AFC title match, thereby qualifying for their fifth Super Bowl appearance in just six years.
In the NFC Championship match, Philadelphia managed to secure a spot in the Super Bowl by overwhelmingly beating the Washington Commanders with a score of 55-23. The Eagles are now aiming for their inaugural Super Bowl victory since they last triumphed over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots towards the end of the 2017 season.

Who will perform in the Super Bowl halftime show?
17-time Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar has been chosen as the main performer for the Super Bowl LIX intermission show. Born in Los Angeles, this is his second time appearing in a Super Bowl halftime show, having previously shared the stage with Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige and Eminem at SoFi Stadium in 2022.
On stage, Lamar won’t perform solo; he’ll share it with SZA as well. There could even be a few more special guests joining them during the performance.
In his statement, Lamar expressed that rap music remains the genre with the greatest influence so far. He also mentioned that he will use this opportunity as the halftime show headliner to underscore this fact. Essentially, he’s letting everyone know they made the correct choice in selecting him.
It is the sixth Super Bowl halftime show produced in part by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Jon Batiste, a multiple Grammy and Academy Award winner, is set to perform the national anthem prior to the kickoff of Super Bowl LIX.

What are the overtime rules for NFL playoff games?
Most NFL playoff overtime regulations were established in 2010, and a single alteration was accepted by the competition committee the previous spring. This adjustment enables both teams to have the opportunity to touch the ball at least once prior to a decisive victor being declared.
The adjustment was implemented after a fresh examination of the playoff overtime guidelines following the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC divisional playoff victory against the Buffalo Bills in January 2022. Earlier, under the revised overtime rules post-2010, ten out of eleven playoff games that went into overtime were won by the team that got the ball first initially.
Here’s a breakdown of the playoff overtime rules:
- A coin flip determines which team receives the opening kickoff.
- Each team will have the opportunity to possess the ball at least once before a winner is determined.
- Teams play 15-minute periods until there’s a winner.
- If the score is tied after each team’s first possession, the next score by either team (touchdown, field goal or safety) will win the game.
- There are no coach challenges, with all reviews being initiated by the replay official.
- Each team gets three timeouts per half (two overtime periods).
- If there is no winner after the fourth overtime period, there will be another coin toss before play resumes.
