Sunrise viewers stunned as Sam Mac quits for family—shares emotional reason behind decision

Sam Mac is taking time away from television to focus on fatherhood.

42-year-old weather reporter on Sunrise announced through Instagram that he’ll be taking a break starting Wednesday.

As a doting father of two, I couldn’t help but share this precious moment with my little nine-month-old Mabel! Spending quality time with my cherished kids is something I eagerly look forward to every day.

Sam has started his paternity leave, as he recently became a father again. He announced it in his latest social media post.

I’m absolutely thrilled to spend some undisturbed time with dear Mabel, just like I was when Margaret was an infant. Remarkably, I have clear recollections of being present when she made her very first steps.

He mentioned that having extra time with her while she was still a toddler was an additional advantage, though it was somewhat scary too.

As a devoted admirer, I’d express it like this: “I, the awestruck fan, shared his thoughts when he confided that his passion for work is unmatched, yet it does exact its price, particularly when it prevents him from sharing in the joy of his children’s milestones.

After I became a father, it’s increasingly tough to say goodbye to my daughters each week. However, it turns out that this situation has a triple advantage! He shared this insight.

‘Bec has the freedom to resume her full-time work schedule now and take some well-deserved breaks,’ he explained, also mentioning that ‘Sunrise viewers will be greeted by Katie Brown in the morning, while Mabel gets non-stop fun with Daddy Mac, affectionately known as “The Wiggle”.’

He concluded his post saying: ‘I’m deeply appreciative of the team at 7 for their continuous support towards new fathers (Dads) and mothers (Mums). This means a great deal to me, and I look forward to seeing everyone again on Sunrise soon.’

Sam and fiancée Rebecca welcomed their second child in August last year.

Channel Seven shared a joyful announcement on Instagram, posting a touching photo of them holding their newborn, whom they named Mabel August McMillan.

‘It’s a girl. Again,’ he wrote in his caption.

With great joy, we announce the birth of Mabel August McMillan on the 14th of August, 1924. What a delight it is to find myself in such esteemed company now, quite a change from my school days!

‘I’ll provide more information shortly. Once again, Bec demonstrated bravery, while Mabel was delightfully plump and relaxed. Now, we all take a moment to relax before Hurricane Margot moves on to reunite with her baby sister later tonight.’

Last February, Sam and Rebecca shared that they were going to have a baby, however, they decided to keep the baby’s gender a secret.

Excitedly sharing the news, he posted: ‘The second installment of ‘Baby Mac’ set to release in August 2024, starring Margot as the elder sibling. #MacDaddy #Round2′

Sam announced in December 2023 that the couple were tying the knot.

In that moment, Sam announced the joyous news on Instagram, along with a picture showing Rebecca proudly displaying her sparkling engagement ring.

In the description, the presenter shared a glimpse of their proposal: “Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you all – my future wife! She happily agreed.

My hidden promise for the 2023 New Year was to pop the question to my beloved, Rebecca, at some point during the year. To put it another way, I managed to make my proposal just in time, much like a last-second shot in basketball.

She possesses an admirable calmness, strength, and a wit that often goes unnoticed. Her intelligence is extraordinary, and her stunning appearance is undeniable. She inspires me to be a better person.

Later on, he shared: ‘This morning, in the presence of her parents and sibling… I confessed my love for all her forms and requested her hand in eternal companionship. To my delight, she agreed.’

In the month of September 2022, two years into their relationship, Sam and Rebecca became parents for the first time, welcoming their beautiful daughter, Margot, into their lives.

At the moment, Sam shared this heartwarming announcement: ‘I’ve discovered a love I didn’t know was possible. It’s left me in a state of amazement, trying to take it all in. My wonderful daughters – simply incredible!’

It’s not the first time Sam has taken time off to raise his kids.  

Last December, Sam reappeared on television following a month-long hiatus from his series role, dedicating himself fully to being a dad off-screen.
