Sunrise viewers speculate Natalie Barr could 'be retiring soon' - and already have a preferred replacement lined up

As a devoted Sunrise enthusiast and someone who’s spent countless mornings sipping my cup of Joe alongside Natalie Barr, I must admit, the rumors of her retirement have sent a shiver down my spine. It’s like hearing the theme song of your favorite TV show fade away for the last time.

Loyal Sunrise fans are speculating longtime co-host Natalie Barr is preparing to retire.

Barr, aged 56, is presently covering the presidential election in Washington D.C., with Monique Wright serving as a guest host alongside Matt Shirvington.

As Monique takes over for Natalie on Channel Seven’s morning show studio in Sydney, some viewers speculate that Natalie might be considering retirement.

One fan on Media Spy enthusiastically shared, “Monique is simply fantastic – it’s great to see her featured more often on the weekday program now.

‘Could she be next [to become host] and Nat be retiring soon?’ someone asked.

However, one dedicated Sunrise enthusiast dismissed the rumours.

‘I don’t see Nat retiring soon,’ they wrote.

Sunrise is consistently strengthening their backup team, ensuring that presenters can smoothly enter and exit the stage without any hiccups.

As much as I admire Mon, I believe she thrives more during weekends and seems content to step in when necessary.

The user then weighed in on their preferred replacement if Nat were to ever retire.

They mentioned that, over time, they anticipate the successor might resemble someone more youthful, such as Sarah Greenhalgh or Teegan Dolling, eventually stepping into the role.

Daily Mail Australia has contact Channel Seven for comment.

Nat has been in the hosting chair at Sunrise since 2021, following Samantha Armytage’s resignation.

It comes after Natalie had an embarrassing moment with Joe Biden on the eve of the US election.

On Tuesday, she found herself at the White House as Marine One, the president’s helicopter, touched down on the South Lawn.

When Biden stepped out from Marine One and headed towards the Oval Office, Nat attempted to inquire whether the President regretted labeling Trump supporters as “unwanted waste.

According to Nat’s statement, President Biden chose not to respond to a question since she asserted that her voice was quite audible.

‘He (President Biden) sort of put his head down, looking away from us,’ Nat said.

Photos show President Biden looking unimpressed following the encounter.

Other journalists were asking questions as well, but mine stood out as particularly loud. Despite this, he merely lowered his head and started walking towards the Oval Office. He chose to disregard my question,’ Nat stated.

Co-hosts Monique and Matt mocked Nat’s hair going wild as the President’s chopper landed.

‘Okay, it’s really windy. We’re really so close, the President is somewhere that way,’ Nat laughed.

‘This is about as close as you get to the President of the United States. Joe Biden. Right there.’

Monique and Matt playfully suggested that President Biden failed to acknowledge Nat since he was likely focusing on her, as she nearly got swept away by the helicopter’s wind.

Regardless of the wind, the host of Sunrise deemed it as one of the most thrilling experiences of her lifetime.

‘Cam, the cameraman, and I were out there, and I couldn’t believe I was there,’ Nat said.

They grant access to the seasoned journalists who frequently attend, making it seem like just another ordinary workday for them. On the other hand, I was trembling with eagerness.

In various films, news broadcasts, and global reports, you might have come across such scenes. And there I was thinking, ‘Amazing, I’m actually here!’ The excitement almost made my wig slip off. Needless to say, it turned out to be quite a chaotic moment, but I was present!
