Sunrise conspiracy theory emerges: ‘Media Watch spot waiting to happen’
As a long-time follower and admirer of Channel Seven’s Sunrise, I must say that this news has left me both intrigued and saddened. The unfounded criticism over the Leapmotor C10 segment seems to miss the mark entirely; the partnership was clearly disclosed on their website as ‘partner content’. Kudos to them for making a lucky viewer’s dream come true, and more power to them for promoting their commercial partners.
Critics are claiming that Channel Seven’s Sunrise program failed to adequately disclose its partnership with a specific company while featuring them in their broadcast, leading to viewer backlash.
On Tuesday, the theory about a secret plot began circulating, following a discussion on the morning shows hosted by Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington about the arrival of the Leapmotor C10 electric car in Australia.
It was the same car Sunrise gave away during a segment to a lucky winner on the show last Friday.
One critic humorously commented on the TV blog Media Spy, saying something like: ‘It seems reasonable, if you provide a car for a contest, you should be given a five-minute “exclusive update” during the show.’
A different spectator believed that Sunrise could potentially face examination on ABC’s Media Watch, which is presented by Paul Barry.
‘They must know this is a Media Watch spot waiting to happen,’ they claimed.
To set the record straight, I must clarify that the criticism levied against Seven’s promotional event is misguided. After all, their website clearly labeled it as ‘partner content’ on their news portal, making it abundantly clear that it was a collaborative endeavor rather than an ordinary giveaway. As a devoted fan, I find myself constantly amazed by the intricate partnerships they forge to deliver unique experiences such as this one.
A week ago, Sunrise shared clips of their grand prize delivery on their Instagram page. In these videos, you could see a fortunate recipient receiving the car via a helicopter.
The content featured a message that reads: ‘Our heartfelt thanks go out to Leapmotor Australia for helping make Nina’s dream a reality.’
Meanwhile, Matt Doran has called time on his five years at Weekend Sunrise.
On air during the closing moments of the Sunday broadcast, the host of the morning program, who is 41 years old, shared an emotionally charged statement.
Star of the Seven variety, who has just shared his battles with depression on The Morning Show, mentioned that he plans to dedicate some time for his loved ones and explore new ventures.
First off, let me share some recent news from our home, the Doran household. In a thoughtful conversation involving my partner Kendall, and not forgetting Murphy, our cherished Italian greyhound, I’ve arrived at a significant decision – one that marks an end to a five-year journey with Weekend Sunrise. By year-end, I will be bidding farewell to the team there.
I’ve given this a lot of thought as it’s true that this job ranks among the finest out there. However, after careful consideration and timing, we believe it’s the perfect decision for my family and me.
Though my heart’s heavy, I can’t help but avoid meeting Monique Wright’s gaze, I find myself in a realm of profound gratitude. This space is filled with laughter echoes, lessons learned, tears shed, and a breathtakingly broadened perspective on life. It’s brimming with the thrill of astonishing snack carousels, even the humble tofu isn’t left out.
As a fervent admirer, I firmly hold the conviction that no position could be more honorable than the one where I get to share the most private and profound tales of individuals. To be entrusted with such sacred stories feels like an extraordinary privilege on our planet.
On this coming Sunday, the 8th of December, Matt will team up with his long-standing co-presenter, Wright, for their last joint episode of Weekend Sunrise.
He broke down in tears speaking about his friendship with his closest colleague.
On Monday, instead of just being a work companion, you’ve become my dearest friend, and I’m really going to feel your absence. By any chance, could we share a warm embrace before we part? He asked this way.
‘I am going to miss you.’
In September, during his appearance on Morning Sunrise to discuss his new book, Mental State, focused on Australia’s mental health care system, Matt courageously shared his personal battles with depression.
As a seasoned journalist who initially found my footing as a police reporter for the Herald Sun, I transitioned to Seven News in 2017 following nearly eight rewarding years within Network Ten’s newsroom.
After two years, he received a promotion to his present position as co-host of Weekend Sunrise, working alongside Monique Wright. During those two years, he occasionally filled in for the weekday host, David Koch.
