Summer skin cosmetics hit The First Descendant ft. Valby & Viessa

In the initial significant upgrade, The First Descendant introduced summer-themed outfits for certain characters, including swimsuits, bikinis, and Hawaiian shirts as part of the Summer Bundle event.

In a manner reminiscent to Shift Up’s naming of their contentious skimpy outfit for EVE, titled the Skin Suit, NEXON is categorizing their outfits as “cosmetic items”.

Initially, when The First Descendant’s game launched, the Ultimate Bunny outfit was the only character costume that revealed a noticeable amount of skin, aside from Viessa and Freyna. But with the July 31st update, this has been altered! Now, three different female characters have swimwear cosmetics, and all male characters get an open shirt and swimming shorts. I can’t wait to see these new additions!

It’s intriguing to note that although NEXON provided a reason for Ultimate Bunny’s revealing outfit, they appear to have skipped over the backstory this time and instead catered directly to the fans’ desires. Here are the Summer Theme Event cosmetics, which, unlike the Luna Pool Party cosmetic, aren’t limited in time.

Valby Summer Theme Bundle – Swimsuit Valby

The Valby Summer Theme Bundle costs 750 Caliber ($15 USD) and comes with two cosmetics.

During the summer break, Valby adorns herself with high heels, a turquoise bikini, and a coordinating grey-turquoise jacket featuring “Albion” emblazoned on it. This outfit stands out as the most revealing in The First Descendant, a stark contrast to her usually fully-clothed appearance.

The Bundle also adds a Head Skin which is the only cosmetic where Valby is not wearing a helmet. The Summer Vacation Head Skin hairstyle can also be used on the Ultimate version of Valby, which released alongside it as part of the July 31 update.

Since Valby’s helmet in her Ultimate Descendant version may not be particularly attractive in design, it’s likely that people will opt for an alternative style, such as the Summer Vacation look instead.

Viessa Summer Theme Bundle – Swimsuit Viessa

Different from Valby, Viessa is among the trio of characters you can immediately unlock at the onset of The First Descendant. Consequently, she’s frequently encountered during the game’s early stages, which might make this specific costume highly popular among players who selected her as their character.

Viessa’s Summer Vacation Package is priced at $15 USD (equivalent to 750 Caliber), similar to Valby’s, and it includes a pair of cosmetic items as well.

Instead of donning a jacket like Valby does, Viessa opts for a stylish monokini and high heels in her Summer Vacation ensemble. The accessory pack includes an ocean-blue head skin for Viessa, which features earrings that complement her swimsuit’s color scheme. Her hairstyle during this look only subtly deviates from her usual style.

Summer Vacation Beach look for all male characters

Instead of creating distinct appearances for each male character, NEXON opted for a unique strategy by offering a beach-themed appearance package that can be applied to all male characters.

As a fashion enthusiast with a penchant for unique and versatile pieces, I find myself intrigued by this unisex ensemble that seems to be limited to male characters at present. Having spent years exploring diverse styles across different cultures, I can appreciate the tropical charm of the Hawaiian-inspired clothing set, complete with sandals, swim shorts, an unbuttoned shirt, and a watch. However, it’s disappointing to see such a limitation in inclusivity, especially considering the growing trend towards gender-neutral fashion. It’s essential for brands to embrace diversity and create clothing that caters to all identities without imposing stereotypes or limitations based on gender.

Summer-themed cosmetics a growing trend

In Asian video game development circles, summer-inspired cosmetics are highly sought after trends, particularly in gaming. Notably, Shift Up, a fellow Korean developer, recently released the Stellar Blade Summer Update, featuring new attire options such as bikinis and monokinis for their character EVE.

In addition, they adapted a similar approach for their mobile game titled “Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.” They transformed two individuals from a criminal gang, namely Sakura and Rosanna, into swimsuit models for the summer season.
