Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley claims he did cocaine with Paris Hilton before topless makeout session in 2003 in explosive book
As I delve into the heart-wrenching narrative of Deryck Whibley, it’s impossible not to be moved by his emotional journey. His decision to reveal the alleged abuse he suffered at the hands of a former mentor is nothing short of courageous. It’s a testament to his resilience and his determination to heal and grow, despite the challenges life has thrown his way.
41-year-old Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley admitted that he used cocaine with socialite Paris Hilton during a brief, passionate relationship in the early 2000s.
44-year-old songwriter famous for “In Too Deep,” who recently accused his ex-manager of sexual misconduct in his new memoir titled “Walking Disaster,” had a romantic relationship with Paris Hilton, 43, lasting six months in 2003. Remarkably, he has alleged that Hilton carried cocaine in her handbag, and they were both under the influence during a passionate, topless kissing session.
According to DailyMail.com’s extract from the manuscript, Whibley describes the beginning of their relationship at an LA club, stating: ‘Upon entering, I met eyes with a stunning blonde woman whom I recognized but couldn’t identify. DailyMail.com has attempted to contact Hilton’s representatives, but we are still awaiting a response.’
‘She definitely knew who I was when she approached immediately. “Hey! Don’t you recall? We met a couple of years back at the event where you performed for MTV.” It then dawned on me that this was Paris Hilton. Although she wasn’t as famous as she is now, it was still Paris Hilton and I certainly hadn’t forgotten her.’
Why, it’s as if I never knew you!” I said, grinning. “You seemed so aloof and unfriendly towards me.” Upon hearing this, her eyes grew wide, and she chuckled nervously before replying, “Oh, no I didn’t! That’s not true at all!
Gosh, could it be that I was the one who spoke up? I can’t believe it! I chuckled and retorted, ‘And here I thought you were asking about my favorite band in an air of arrogance and pretentiousness when you said, “So… what’s your cool band?”‘
‘Luckily she had a good sense of humor… we laughed it off and she invited me to her table.’
He remembered that the duo had conversations and drank shots at her celebrity-filled table, before they started kissing passionately.
Praising the “fresh, delightful, undeniably wild” star Whibley shared that they concluded their journey at an “eccentric old mansion in the Hollywood Hills.” This peculiar residence was once owned by a retired movie producer from the 1970s.
The following person reported that upon arrival, they encountered a young woman, who appeared to be in her early twenties, dressed in lingerie and showing signs of drug use, possibly from heroin.
Paris took a small sample of cocaine… I tried a line, which turned out to be exceptionally potent and extraordinary compared to any other I’d experienced before. It wasn’t intense or rush-inducing, my heart didn’t race at an unusual pace. Instead, I felt absolutely fantastic.
In the wee hours of 3 am, with a performance scheduled for the next day, they decided to depart from the gathering. Meanwhile, Whibley shared stories about their passionate rendezvous on the roof of an old-fashioned vehicle.
He writes: ‘We kept making out as I left the party, and soon we found ourselves living out some eighties dream, high on coke and making out on the hood of the movie producer’s vintage Porsche.
‘She removed her upper garment, and things became quite heated. However, the unusual aspect was seeing members of a band standing at the end of the driveway, shouting at me due to my delay.’
The duo reportedly carried on with their supposed outrageous exploits, with Whibley asserting that they had snorted cocaine (lines of blow) at a house gathering the evening preceding their initial concert in Canada – and then staged a fake orgy upon unexpected arrival of the police.
He writes: ‘I had one week off before our Canadian tour and I spent it in Los Angeles with Paris. I was starting to get cocky and had booked my flight to Toronto at 6 a.m. on the day of the first show.
‘The night before my flight, Paris’s friend was having a big house party up in the Hills.
‘Soon enough Paris and I found ourselves in a back bedroom of a Hollywood Hills mansion with my friend Byron from the band Pennywise and some guy I didn’t know.
At a compact circular table, we were engaged in sharing powdery substances and conversing. I initiated a conversation with the unfamiliar individual, despite his evident state of intoxication and slurred speech. However, I managed to learn that his band had recently been signed by a prominent record label, which clearly excited him about their upcoming music.
‘Then it f*****g hit me: He was Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots, and he was talking about his new supergroup, Velvet Revolver, with him and members of Guns N’ Roses.’
48-year-old Weiland passed away in 2015 due to a fatal mix of accidental overdoses involving cocaine, alcohol, and MDA (methylenedioxyamphetamine).
As I was about to complete my work, suddenly someone burst in shouting, “Police are here! They’re arresting people for drugs!” I was so startled that I leaped up to either flush the drugs or hide them quickly, while Paris remained composed and gathered the pile of cocaine into her bag.
I remained extremely worried as it turned out that Paris had a large amount of cocaine in her bag, we were trapped in this secluded room without an escape route, and the police were moments away from breaking down the door. To make matters worse, we were both heavily intoxicated.
At that moment, an idea struck me as exceptionally clever. “Why don’t we all climb into the bed, hide under the covers, and simulate a wild sexual encounter?” I proposed. “That way, when the police arrive, they’ll assume we’re perverted and leave us undisturbed!
Everyone, including them, found it an impeccable idea. We then moved to the bed, where Scott began massaging my chest and unfastening his trousers. Suddenly, I exclaimed, “Hold on, hold on, what in the world are you up to?
He spoke with a very sluggish tone, saying, “Wait, didn’t you say we were participating in a large party?” I retorted loudly, “ACT! I said act like we were at such a party!
Following approximately quarter-hour into our make-believe lovemaking session, sounds of music and voices filled the air. It seemed that someone had become alarmed as police arrived due to a noise disturbance complaint, ensuring our safety.
Whibley admits that he missed the band’s initial Canadian performance because, allegedly, he was in a state resembling a Xanax coma, accompanied by Paris.
He wrote: ‘No one knew I wasn’t going to make the show and no one believed I would f**k up so badly as to miss it entirely. The amphitheater was sold out, the fans were packed in, the opening band played, and then it was time for Sum 41 to go on.
The entire band stood by the stage, their guitars strummed and prepared. They thought it was a clever trick, believing I would suddenly appear and jest “GOTCHA!” before taking over to perform for the packed audience. However, I wasn’t even in the same nation at that moment.
In a house located in the Hollywood Hills, I found myself unconscious, presumably due to Xanax, sharing a space with Paris Hilton following an all-night party with various rock stars.
Once it was evident that the situation wasn’t a clever hoax and my arrival wasn’t imminent, the organizers declared that the event had been called off.
It’s clear that the audience began jeering and tossing items onstage. The following day, the headline of the local paper blared “BOO! SUM NO SHOW!
In the year 2010, Paris admitted guilt for two minor crimes, namely possessing an illegal substance (cocaine) and hindering a public official, following an incident where cocaine was found in her handbag.
At first, Hilton asserted that the cocaine wasn’t hers, explaining that the bag it was found in actually belonged to someone else.
But as part of a plea deal Hilton accepted responsibility in return for no jail sentence.
Over the past years, Whibley has been candid about his struggle with alcohol dependency that began following the 2001 launch of the band’s album, All Killer, No Filler. For over a decade, he found himself on endless tours and turned to excessive drinking as a means of dealing with stress.
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Paris Hilton for comment.
Following the accusations made by Whibley against his ex-manager, Greig Nori, of sexual misconduct in his recent tell-all memoir.
As a devoted admirer, I’ve come to share a deeply troubling account. Six years my senior, the charismatic frontman of Treble Charger, Nori (now 62), stands accused of a disturbing pattern of grooming, manipulation, and sexual abuse. This ordeal began when I was an 18-year-old fan, and he was 36.
Whibley started collaborating with Nori, who was the band’s first music manager, around 1999 when he was sixteen years old. In his recently published memoir titled Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell, he alleges that Nori persuaded him to use drugs before physically abusing him for the first time in a bathroom at a rave party.
In passages given to the Los Angeles Times, Whibley expresses that Greig demanded to be our manager under one condition: absolute authority. He insisted that we communicate solely with him since the music industry is ‘teeming with deceitful individuals,’ and he was the only individual we could rely on.
As a devoted fan, I recall an instance from my teenage years, approximately 18 years old. At a vibrant gathering, often referred to as a “rave,” I found myself in an unexpected situation. A well-known musician approached me, seemingly under the influence, and proposed an unusual invitation: to accompany him to the restroom for another dose of ecstasy.
He asserts that after this, Nori swiftly leaned in and planted a fervent kiss on him, leaving Whibley astonished and moving away.
He writes that he had ‘never’ thought of Nori like that and claims Nori told him while he had ‘never experienced same-sex attraction before, [Whibley] brought it out in him because what [they] had was so special.’
After some time, his unyielding and persuasive arguments led me to entertain the thought that perhaps he could be correct. (Whibley)
In Whibley’s book, it is suggested that over time, Nori attempted to persuade him to investigate their relationship, as he expressed, “Many of my rock star heroes were queer, and I think most people are bisexual, they’re just too timid to acknowledge it.
With increasing fame, Sum 41 found themselves journeying farther and wider – a development that brought a sense of relief to Deryck Whibley as it increased the space between him and Nori.
Upon returning to Ajax, Ontario, Whibley alleges that he tried to sever the physical aspect of his relationship with Nori, as he identified himself as neither gay nor bisexual.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must share an intriguing anecdote that unfolded between me and Nori, as chronicled in the book we both are associated with. In response to what he perceived as my ‘homophobic’ remarks, Nori countered by citing instances where he believed I owed him a debt of gratitude for his significant contributions to my music career.
He writes: ‘He told me this was all my fault to begin with because I should never have said yes to it in the first place. I started this and now he was in it with me so I couldn’t just stop.’
In the fascinating book, it’s stated that I, being the ardent fan, came to understand that my beloved Nori started drawing boundaries in our intimate interactions when a cherished acquaintance of ours, unnamed yet significant, exposed the truth behind what had transpired between us. This insightful friend conveyed to both Nori and me that our relationship was, in fact, abusive.
After the end of their sexual relationship, Nori started verbally and psychologically tormenting Whibley.
He argued that Nori would either compliment him or criticize him severely, and furthermore, create conflict within the entire band by suggesting he had become too Hollywood as a result of his relationship with Lavigne.
The songwriter behind “In Too Deep” revealed that he had never disclosed the accusations of sexual abuse to anyone, not even his band members, but confided in his former wife, Avril Lavigne, during their four-year marriage (2006-2010).
In the memoir, it is stated that upon learning about the alleged abuse, Lavigne reacted with the exclamation: “That’s abuse!” and her current spouse, Ariana Cooper, expressed similar shock and disbelief.
As a lifestyle and music expert, I’d like to share an interesting insight from Whibley regarding Nori, a significant figure in the band’s song production. He often emphasized the importance of securing a songwriter credit on many of our tracks. His reasoning was that the music industry would give us more credibility if his name appeared as a co-writer. In simpler terms, he believed this move would make our work seem more serious and validated in the eyes of the industry.
In 2018, Nori was accused by Whibley of claiming some of his profitable songwriting rights. However, the court ruled in favor of Whibley, giving him back the songwriting shares in the band’s publishing credits.
According to Whibley, he advocated for letting go of Nori due to poor time management and an incident where they suspected Nori was under the influence of ecstasy at a band performance. However, his bandmates disagreed with this decision.
Nori was fired in 2005 after album Chuck was released
Nori has not responded to repeated requests for comment from the publication.
Whibley explained to Rolling Stone why he chose to disclose the alleged abuse for the first time: “I had always thought that I would keep this a secret and never speak of it. But as I delved into writing my book, I felt compelled to be truthful.
For a stretch, I chose to step away from dwelling on that matter. I eventually recognized this as a form of self-protection. Reflecting further, I understood that I desired to detach myself from any thoughts or emotions associated with being a victim. I made a conscious effort to avoid falling into the trap of victimhood.
To this very moment, Whibley refrains from labeling the claimed occurrences as “abuse” in his memoir, stating instead that he is still in the initial phase of comprehending and dealing with the events.
For the first time, I’m encountering this situation and I’m still grappling with my feelings about it. It was undeniably manipulative, but at the time, I didn’t fully grasp the extent of it all. It wasn’t until I reached his age, in his mid-30s, when I was a teenager, that I began to understand the power dynamic at play. As a hero, he had the ability to influence a 16-year-old kid like me.
He claimed that his motivation for disclosing the alleged abuse came after Ariana, who he has two children with, publicly discussed her past suicide attempt during their 2021 joint interview. He felt compelled to be transparent about it, expressing “I felt the significance of just being open.
Whibley shared his memoir, scheduled for publication on Tuesday, with his bandmates, stating: “He turned out to be rather unfriendly towards us all. There was a general avoidance of discussing him.
Previously, it was disclosed that the rock group Sum 41 was planning to disband following the release and tour of their final studio album last year.
Since 1996, being part of Sum 41 has given us some unforgettable experiences that we’ll always cherish. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to both our long-time and recent fans who have stood by us through thick and thin. It’s challenging to express the depth of our affection and admiration for each one of you, but we wanted to convey this heartfelt message directly: thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
41 Sum will no longer exist together. However, we’ll complete all the remaining performances on our scheduled tours for this year. We’re excited about releasing our last album titled “Heaven :x: Hell,” and planning a global farewell tour to commemorate it. More information about these events will be shared once it becomes available.
The group consisting of Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker, and Frank Zummo concluded their message expressing their eagerness for the upcoming chapters in everyone’s lives. They thanked fans for the past 27 years with Sum 41.
Sum 41’s final show is scheduled for November. 23, 2024, in Nanterre, France
From its inception in 1996, Sum 41 has put out a total of eight studio albums, with the latest one, “Heaven :x: Hell,” scheduled for release in March 2024.
