Suki Waterhouse details ‘dark underbelly’ of past relationships and things she’d ‘never be able to discuss in public’ on candid new album
Reflecting on Suki Waterhouse’s life journey through her relationships, one can’t help but marvel at the resilience and strength she has shown. Her twenties were indeed a rollercoaster ride of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, much like a tumultuous dance floor where one learns to sway with grace amidst chaos.
On her upcoming album, titled “Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin,” model Suki Waterhouse plans to share intimate details about the challenging aspects of her previous relationships and experiences with heartache.
The forthcoming 18-track collection, slated for launch on September 13, represents a liberation from past constraints for the 32-year-old artist, who was previously tied to certain limitations in her debut album.
Through her semi-autobiographical tunes, she hints at experiences that she wouldn’t feel comfortable disclosing openly in public. However, in a recent interview, Suki finally shed light on these topics.
In 2018, the artist started dating Robert Pattinson, who is now 38 years old, and they recently had their first child, a girl, back in April of this year.
She completed her album only five days prior to the arrival of her daughter, and many songs on the album chronicle her quest for love following a string of unsuccessful relationships.
Suki shared with DIY Magazine that her mental state was distinct while creating this album, and she had fewer reservations compared to when she was working on the initial one.
She mentioned that composing autobiographical songs is particularly captivating for her, but there are certain subjects she hasn’t yet felt ready to address in her music.
In one song, Lawsuit, she sings: ‘I heard all about you from the girls in line in the bathroom.’
Suki explained to the publication: ‘It’s not my lawsuit, but it’s definitely about a dark underbelly and the things that go on.
‘It’s about something I’d probably never be able to discuss in public, but it’s more than just, “F*** this guy!” It’s about a bunch of women connecting who’ve had a similar experience. And there’s this feeling of, “Yeah, everyone’s really got each other’s back”.’
Before finding love with Robert, Suki had a number of high profile romances.
In the years ranging from 2011 to 2013, Suki found herself in a relationship with the renowned British musician Miles Kane, who was then 25, while she herself was only 19.
At the age of 20, she began a two-year romantic involvement with the more seasoned Hollywood star, Bradley Cooper, who was seventeen years older than her.
Back in the years of 2015 to 2017, I was beyond thrilled to find myself entwined with none other than the charismatic Diego Luna, a man 12 years my senior and a powerhouse in the world of acting and directing!
Speaking candidly during her August feature in British Vogue, she shared her thoughts about her past relationships: “Your twenties can be quite ruthless. The affection I encountered was largely objectified, and I believe if one is exclusively loved in such a manner, one ultimately endures punishment.”
As a lifestyle expert, I can confidently express that I’ve reached a point of resilience, but let me clarify, experiencing something deeply personal and public, with a backstory tainted by darkness and hardship, is a different challenge. When one is not in the best place emotionally, and finding the words to share your truth feels impossible, the isolation and disorientation that ensues can be overwhelming.
Acknowledging its impact, she noted, “It likely took about ten years for me to sort things out and finally experience this growth in my life.”
‘If you told her then this is where she would be now I wouldn’t have believed you.’
Looking back at her tumultuous romantic years in her twenties, Suki, a blossoming singer-songwriter at 32, confessed that her recent work has been deeply influenced by the immense pain of heartbreak she experienced during that challenging period.
Last year, she shared with The Sunday Times Style magazine that she had been feeling quite down for some time. This melancholy lingered for a considerable period. She believes it was mainly due to the break-up and additionally, dealing with life’s challenges during her twenties, which felt like being stuck in a tough battle.
As a passionate devotee following the musical journey, let me share that the artist, who unveiled her debut album “I Can’t Let Go” in 2022, spoke about drawing inspiration from past heartbreaks for numerous of her compositions. However, she reassured us that this emotional fuel doesn’t seem to bother her partner, Robert.
Earlier this month, it became known that Suki would be among the five distinguished guests performing with Taylor and Paramore at their Wembley concerts.
Each evening, it’s only one night per artist where Paramore performs. On separate nights, Raye, Suki, Maisie Peters, Holly Humberstone, and Sofia Isella will all perform individually.
Taylor, the popular pop artist, has scheduled an additional five sold-out performances at Wembley Stadium, running from August 15 through August 20.
