Suits LA: The Episode That Proves It’s a Comedy?!
If you’re just joining Suits LA for Episode 11, you might initially mistake it for a sitcom due to its light-hearted tone. This installment boasts the presence of three seasoned comedic actors: Patton Oswalt, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Brian Baumgartner. Moreover, this is the funniest episode yet, an unexpected twist considering the show’s legal focus. The main character, Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt), takes center stage as he finds himself in a predicament due to his temper while also enjoying his bachelor party reminisces. Although some regular characters like Kevin and Leah Power are absent, the episode is otherwise engaging and well-executed.
Stuart Rages With Yvette Nicole Brown
At the onset of the episode, Stuart drives his children to school, eventually colliding with a car ahead. It transpires that the vehicle belongs to Yvette Nicole Brown, who chides him for being so preoccupied with dancing if he wanted to avoid the accident. In response, Stuart criticizes her acting abilities and asserts that the show “Community” was excessively praised. However, his initial outburst was unjustified, but that final remark was particularly offensive.
In the workplace, Stuart points out that the individual he collided with is one of Rick’s regular clients. Samantha advises Stuart to offer an apology and compensate for any damages. However, being typically unyielding, Stuart requests Rick to extend an apology, on his behalf, to Yvette Nicole Brown. Rick denies this, insisting that Stuart should apologize personally.
In a meeting with Yvette Nicole Brown, Stuart expresses regret and praises her comedic abilities, but his apology falls flat. Yvette Nicole Brown challenges him for his insincere words. Faced with criticism, Stuart becomes angry once more and lashes out, insulting Yvette’s talent, mocking those who stutter, and asserting that he should be able to make fun of whomever he chooses. Yvette Nicole Brown capitalizes on this behavior and manages to get the school where Stuart’s children attend to bar him from attending any events due to his inappropriate comments.
Upon learning about the matter, Stuart approaches Rick, who thinks Stuart is at fault. Rick consults Yvette Nicole Brown about how Stuart might rectify the situation, to which she presents three requirements: Stuart is forbidden from playing ’90s boy bands at school, he must compose a poem for her, and he must enroll in an anger management program. Upon hearing this, Stuart becomes agitated once more, prompting Rick to seek Ted’s help in calming him down. Stuart confesses to Ted that he has been fearful for his family since a previous client made threats against them, and Ted comforts him with a warm embrace.
Ted Helps Patton Oswalt
In this episode’s flashbacks, we get a glimpse into the strong bond between Ted and Stuart in the past. Back in 2010, both Ted and Eddie traveled to Los Angeles for Stuart’s bachelor party. Their destination was a karaoke bar, where Ted and Stuart harmoniously sang “Tearin’ Up My Heart.” Meanwhile, Eddie engaged in a conversation with Patton Oswalt, whom he recognized from Ratatouille and King of Queens.
Just as the conversation was unfolding, an impolite fan interrupted them, requesting an autograph from Patton Oswalt. The fan didn’t hesitate to tease Eddie, which prompted Patton Oswalt to retaliate against the fan with some choice words. In response, the fan aggressively pushed Patton Oswalt, causing Ted, in a protective gesture, to throw a punch at the fan.
Whilst Patton Oswalt is taking time to recover, he chats with Ted over drinks at a bar. Known for his love of Martin Scorsese and mob trials, Oswalt identifies Ted as the attorney who brought down Pellegrini. Oswalt expresses that if Ted were to switch to entertainment law, he’d be thrilled to have Ted represent him. Ted responds bluntly that he’d prefer not to exist than become an entertainment lawyer, which might seem a bit extreme. The following day, Ted and Eddie run into Samantha at Santa Monica. While Ted and Samantha converse privately, Ted discloses that his father has been convicted, but he chooses not to inform Eddie about it.
Currently, Patton Oswalt appears at Ted’s workplace, all set to ink a deal for an action-comedy. Known for his humor, Oswalt is reluctant to bargain as this role represents his long-cherished dream. During his wait for Ted, he catches sight of Brian Baumgartner in a conference room. These two actors had a run-in during Episode 2 and their altercation resurfaces when Baumgartner taunts Oswalt about performing his own stunts. This leads to another skirmish between the pair. Consequently, Oswalt is adamant about executing the stunts for the upcoming action-comedy, a decision that escalates the insurance cost to $1 million.
Erica and Amanda Team Up To Help a Teen Star
In the latest episode, Amanda handled a case involving teenage celebrity Sierra Carson, who is accused of aggravated assault for hurling a statue at her father. Sierra claims she was desperate for a role, but her father thwarted it and controls her finances. However, despite Amanda’s intention to have the judge permit Sierra to use her own money to cover Amanda’s fees, the judge ruled that Amanda would be working on this case without charge. Ted expresses his disapproval as Amanda is taking on her inaugural case in the criminal division for free, suggesting that Erica should officially sign Sierra as a client.
In a court setting, the state prosecutor argues that Sierra should be treated as an adult due to her income level. Amanda persuades Sierra to agree to this, as it could aid in her emancipation from her father. However, the district attorney escalates the charges to attempted murder, potentially imprisoning Sierra for a minimum of five years. A meeting ensues between Amanda, Erica, Sierra, and Sierra’s father. Sierra’s father expresses his reluctance to see her incarcerated and consents not to testify against her. Additionally, Erica encourages Sierra to have faith in her father and urges him to reflect on the impact of his actions on his daughter.
In the upcoming episode of Suits LA, airing at 9 p.m. on NBC, we can expect to see the return of the Suits character, Louis Litt. Following its broadcast on NBC, the episode will also be available on Peacock.
