As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the recent news about Rocksteady Studios and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has left me feeling a tad disheartened. It’s always unfortunate to see talented individuals losing their jobs due to factors largely out of their control.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but feel the impact when I hear about the changes at Rocksteady Studios following the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It seems that the studio has had to let go of nearly half of their Quality Assurance (QA) team members due to what appears to be underwhelming performance of the game.
Eurogamer shares news about a significant reduction in Rocksteady’s Quality Assurance (QA) team, from 33 members to only 15. This downsize is allegedly because of the underperformance of Suicide Squad: KTJL in sales, leading to what they call a “restructuring” within the company. It appears that this staff reduction isn’t confined to the QA department, as senior management at Rocksteady has openly admitted that the quality of their products might suffer due to these layoffs.
In this situation, both experienced and new employees are reportedly affected by job cuts, one individual revealing they were deemed redundant while on paternity leave. Meanwhile, unidentified staff members at Rocksteady Games claim that the reduced QA team will face an excessive workload due to the significant reduction in their numbers.
The video game “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” was released in February for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, yet its sales fell short by approximately $200 million compared to expectations from Warner Bros. Discovery, its parent company. In July, Rocksteady Studios continued development with “Season 2,” introducing Mrs. Freeze as a new character, but the game’s future remains unclear.
