Succession’s Kieran Culkin lines up exciting new role
As a theater enthusiast who vividly remembers the impact of my first live performance of “Glengarry Glen Ross” back in the ’90s, I can hardly contain my excitement about this upcoming Broadway production! The thought of watching Kieran Culkin reprise his role after more than a decade, alongside the likes of Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, is simply exhilarating.
Succession‘s Kieran Culkin has landed an exciting new role in a Broadway play.
Actor will be appearing in a performance of “Glengarry Glen Ross” by David Mamet, sharing the stage with Bob Odenkirk from “Better Call Saul” and renowned humorist Bill Burr.
As reported by Deadline, both Odenkirk and Burr are set to make their Broadway debuts with the upcoming play. Interestingly, Culkin is returning to Broadway after a decade-long absence; his last production was in 2014 where he played a role in “This Is Our Youth.”
In a ruthlessly competitive real estate agency based in Chicago, four sales representatives strive to offload primarily valueless properties to unsuspecting buyers, as depicted in “Glengarry Glen Ross“.
In this tough, competitive setting, the individual who manages to sell the highest quantity gets a car as their reward. Conversely, the person with the lowest sales faces termination – a place where everyone is ready to go to great lengths to emerge victorious.
In the upcoming production, Culkin is set to portray Richard Roma, a relentless salesman, much like how Al Pacino played him in the 1992 film adaptation. Odenkirk has been cast as Shelly Levine, an older, faded salesman, while Burr will assume the role of the boisterous, frequently outspoken salesman Dave Moss.
In 1983, Patrick Marber, a Tony Award-winning director, recounted that he witnessed the initial staging of “Glengarry Glen Ross” in London when he was only nineteen years old. He expressed that the production left an indelible impact on his young spirit.
He went on saying: “One of the motivations behind my theatre career was this very role. Now, four decades later, I’m overjoyed to be directing it on Broadway with such talented actors. I’ll strive my best to make sure this iconic American play brings audiences the same delight it brought me.”
The Broadway production of Glengarry Glen Ross is set to open in spring 2025.
Succession aired on HBO in the US, and is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
