Stunning First Look at Disney+’s 2025 Black Panther Series: Eyes of Wakanda!
The marketing effort for the upcoming Disney+ series, “Eyes of Wakanda” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is intensifying. As an August release date approaches, Marvel Studios Animation has revealed the initial poster for the “Black Panther” show, a sight fans are eager to behold.
Introduced in 2023, “Eyes of Wakanda” delves into the exploits of the Hatut Zaraze, ancient warriors from Wakanda who embark on missions to recover vibranium artifacts spanning the nation’s past. Marvel Studios unveiled the first episode at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, giving fans a sneak peek of the show’s poster, which was made public by Disney+ and Marvel (as shared on @colliderfrosty).
The fresh piece features a lively character adorned with a lion-crested headpiece and brandishing a spear. Notably, he appears to be perched upon the royal seat of Wakanda, encircled by swaying palm fronds.
It seems this character resembles those seen in earlier Eyes of Wakanda imagery and promotional materials, suggesting he might be the Lion, a once high-ranking Wakandan military official.
In the voice of actor Cress Williams, it’s predicted that the character will transform into a pirate and plunder advanced technology from Wakanda in order to found his very own kingdom, modeled after the majestic lion.
The poster for Marvel Studios Animation subtly communicates a wealth of information about the latest character, while also hinting at Wakanda’s rich past. However, it is the strong resemblance to the initial teaser from 2018’s Black Panther movie starring Chadwick Boseman that adds even more impact to the artwork.
The latest artwork also subtly references its live-action counterparts in various ways. For example, although the throne and jungle vegetation in the Disney+ poster are more vibrant than those in the original Black Panther posters, the Eyes of Wakanda art maintains the movie’s black, blue, and gray tones.
Despite the fact that the color palette in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” was somewhat toned down, the abundant use of gold in “Eyes of Wakanda” serves as a visual link to the gold found in Shuri’s Black Panther outfit as well.
On August 6, “Eyes of Wakanda” premieres on Disney+, marking its entry as the inaugural series in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The narrative is set to traverse various epochs from ancient times like the Bronze Age, all the way up to contemporary events.
Besides Cress Williams lending his voice to the character Lion, the animated series also boasts a talented cast of voice actors. Winnie Harlow voices Noni, a fallen member of the Dora Milaje, while Adam Gold, Jona Xiao, Patricia Belcher, and again Cress Williams, Steve Toussaint, and Anika Noni Rose contribute their vocal skills to other characters.
Additionally, I’m thrilled to share that the showrunner of “Eyes of Wakanda”, Todd Harris, has hinted at the creation of a female counterpart to James Bond, often referred to as “Jane Bond”. The details about her character are still under wraps for now.
Eyes of Wakanda’s Other Black Panther & MCU Connections
Instead of following the pattern set by previous Marvel Studios animated series like “What If…?” or “X-Men ’97”, and the studio’s popular “Marvel Zombies”, “Eyes of Wakanda” is set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sacred Timeline, with links to the live-action Marvel Studios films. This means that as the series delves deeper into Wakanda’s history and mythos, it has the potential to redefine how viewers perceive “Black Panther” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, but also other significant MCU events and characters.
For example, given that the series focuses on finding vibranium artifacts, one assumption is that the show “Eyes of Wakanda” might delve into how Tony Stark’s father, Howard Stark, acquired the vibranium to create Captain America’s shield.
It’s noteworthy to mention that “Eyes of Wakanda” is indeed set to include a prominent Marvel character, Iron Fist. This was hinted at during D23 2024 when the team behind “Eyes of Wakanda” suggested that the series would introduce more heroes from cities shrouded in secrecy, including one with a glowing fist as its symbol.
Audience members are looking forward to witnessing more of the distinctive markings of “Eyes of Wakanda” becoming visible, and learning about its significance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as its streaming premiere draws near.
