Marvel Studios is facing more challenges. Following underwhelming box office results for their 2025 movies, the future of a potential second season of a highly-rated Disney+ series is now uncertain. This is due to the bankruptcy of Axis Studios, a U.K.-based animation studio that worked on the show.
According to Forbes, Axis Studios – the company responsible for the unique, hand-painted animation in the Wakanda-focused series – has closed its Glasgow, Scotland location, leaving approximately 160 people without jobs. This closure also complicates any potential future seasons of *Eyes of Wakanda*, though the series’ future was already uncertain due to its uneven reception from viewers.
The series *Eyes of Wakanda* launched in August and quickly received praise from critics, who called it a storytelling success. This was especially notable given the generally negative reviews many Marvel Studios projects have received lately. Critics described it as similar to Marvel’s earlier short films, expanding on the broader universe. However, viewers didn’t react as strongly, considering the series easily skippable within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Eyes of Wakanda” falls into a similar category as some other Disney+ Marvel shows. While shows like “WandaVision” and “Loki” significantly advance the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe storyline by moving characters and plot points forward, others – such as “What If…?” and “Hawkeye” – are more self-contained side stories. “Eyes of Wakanda” feels like one of these latter types of shows, a feeling confirmed by its description.
I’m so excited about “Eyes of Wakanda!” It’s an incredible story that follows the Wakandan War Dogs – a secret group called the Hatut Zeraze – as they travel the world throughout history. They’re on these really dangerous missions to find lost Vibranium artifacts, and it’s just a thrilling ride!
Will Marvel Studios Want to Deliver ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ Season 2?

Disney+
The 2018 film *Black Panther* was a critical and popular success for Marvel, earning numerous Academy Award nominations. Although the 2022 sequel, *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever*, didn’t receive the same level of acclaim, it was still a major financial hit for Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. The series *Eyes of Wakanda* successfully explored the rich history of the fictional nation of Wakanda in more detail.
Even before Axis Studios closed down, it wasn’t certain if Marvel Studios planned another season of the show. Marvel has recently reduced its content output, especially the number of shows planned for Disney+. With the animation studio that worked on the series now gone, deciding the show’s future might be easier for Marvel.
Even if the planned series *Eyes of Wakanda* doesn’t move forward, the story of Black Panther will continue with a third film directed by Ryan Coogler. Coogler, who also directed the recent horror film *Sinners*, has hinted at plans for *Black Panther 3*, including the possibility of casting Denzel Washington. While release dates for Marvel movies beyond *Avengers: Doomsday* are subject to change, *Black Panther 3* is currently expected to come out after *Avengers: Secret Wars*.
