Strikeforce, BKFC vet arrested for murder, UFC Edmonton & Yoel Romero rumor debunked
As a lifelong fan of combat sports who’s seen it all, from the rise and fall of legends to the emergence of new talent, I can’t help but be both saddened and intrigued by today’s news.
In this fresh daily feature, I will dissect news stories stemming from the realm of combat sports, sharing my perspective on each one. Be sure to return each morning to catch the day’s top or enigmatic headlines along with my insights beneath them.
MMA veteran accused of revenge murder
Four-time Strikeforce and previous BKFC combatant Lumumba Sayers was taken into custody and indicted for murder, following accusations that he fatally shot a man believed to have murdered his child. This tragic event is said to have transpired at a birthday celebration for a child in Colorado. The initial report was made by Denver 7 News.
Having worked as a social worker for many years, I can attest to the fact that the loss of a child is one of the most devastating experiences a family can endure. It’s hard to fathom how something like this could happen at such an innocent and joyful event as a child’s birthday party. The emotions that must be running through the parents in this story are unimaginable, and I can only imagine the pain they are feeling.

On November 2nd, the UFC will travel to Edmonton, Canada for a fight night featuring Rose Namajunas versus Erin Blanchfield as the main event. Additionally, several other fights have been scheduled, such as Derrick Lewis facing off against Alexandr Romanov, Ariane Da Silva vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius, Marc-Andre Barriault versus Dustin Stoltzfus, Jamey-Lyn Horth taking on Ivana Petrovic, and Cody Gibson battling Chad Anheliger.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say it feels great to witness UFC hitting the road again more often, hinting at even bigger events down the line. The main event is shaping up nicely and looks set to decide who the next title contender will be. Plus, having Derrick Lewis in the roster always adds an extra layer of excitement!
Yoel Romero debunks new rumor
No true
— Peoples Champ (@YoelRomeroMMA) August 15, 2024
A popular Russian news source announced that Yoel Romero was negotiating for his upcoming MMA engagement with the ACA. However, he seemingly dismissed the claim by retweeting it and stating, “This is not accurate.”
It wasn’t until I saw this Tweet that Yoel Romero came to mind again. Previously, I believed he was still with Bellator/PFL, but in truth, I haven’t kept tabs on his career much since he departed from the UFC. From my perspective, it seemed like he never fully realized his potential.
