As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for empathy and a deep appreciation for the human spirit, I find Pete Wicks’ decision to honor his late nan Doreen through Strictly Come Dancing profoundly moving. Losing a loved one is an experience that transcends the boundaries of time and space, leaving indelible marks on our hearts and lives. The bond between Pete and his nan Doreen was evidently unique, a testament to their unwavering love and support for each other.

Pete Wicks has revealed he hopes to do a tribute to his late nan Doreen on Strictly.

Previously known “The Only Way is Essex” star, aged 32, suffered the loss of his cherished grandmother in 2022. He feels confident that she would have been thrilled to witness him dance in the BBC’s Latin and ballroom competition.

In Harlow, Pete grew up under the care of his grandmother Doreen, who stepped in when his parents split. She provided significant emotional support for Pete during his youth, particularly as his mom grappled with mental health issues.

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the matter, I confidently assert that she would have been thrilled by the prospect. It’s not something I believe she had envisioned – me participating in ballroom dancing, especially on a Saturday evening.

Perhaps there’s a tune we might perform that holds deep significance for me, and if I stay here long enough, it could serve as a small tribute to her.

Last week, Pete and his professional partner Jowita Przystał danced the Samba to George Of The Jungle and scored 26 points.

He adds: ‘She had the best sense of humour, so she’d have found it hilarious watching me strut around like a t*t.’

In simpler terms, Pete mentions that the passing of his grandmother significantly changed him, causing him to ponder over his playboy ways and understand why he finds it hard to settle down in a committed relationship.

He says: ‘I lost my nan, and that’s what kind of made me think about looking back at things and reflecting on things to work out why I’m the way I am now.’

Pete previously described Doreen as his ‘best friend.’

He declared that she was his most significant source of encouragement throughout his challenging adolescence, and he even got a permanent tribute tattoo in her name.

Reflecting on the momentous occasion of penning my memoirs, I find myself recalling the fateful day when my mother took her final breath. On that very day, I was engrossed in the camaraderie of dear friends in the vibrant city of London. However, a sudden phone call from my mother jolted me out of my merrymaking, urging me to hasten to the hospital without delay.

My mother and I found ourselves seated on opposite sides, each gripping one of her hands. The final phrases she whispered to me feel just as fresh today as they did yesterday: “You are my other half.

Earlier this year, Pete mentioned that he’s surrounded by a robust group of women who are very supportive, assisting him in dealing with his emotions effectively.

He said on Lorraine last month: ‘She was amazing Doreen, just an angel on earth. She had a major impact on my life and loosing her is the toughest thing I’ve ever been through.

She wasn’t just a grandmother; she was my dearest friend. It’s challenging to grasp one’s personal emotions and sentiments. For me, the overwhelming emotions manifested as anger, as I struggled to comprehend and express them properly.

‘I surround myself with a very good circle of strong women, it’s really important.

‘Women are so much more important at understanding and getting through difficult situations.

Upon reaching the tavern, the lads engage in friendly banter, exchanging simple greetings such as, “Hey, what’s up?” and so forth. Yet, these small interactions can have a profound impact; it’s not merely about conversing, but also having someone who is willing to lend an ear.

Pete and Jowita will perform the Quickstep on Saturday to Town Called Malice by The Jam.

Strictly continues on Saturday on BBC One at 6.20pm.
