Strictly’s Nick Knowles reveals he missed his own birthday party after his car broke down and he had to change a tire – causing the arm injury threatening his spot on the show
As a dedicated follower of Strictly Come Dancing and a seasoned motorist myself, I find Nick Knowles’ tale of woe both heartbreaking and utterly relatable. Here’s a man who missed his own birthday party due to a car breakdown, an event as common as the sunrise for many of us. Yet, it’s the unforeseen circumstances that make our lives interesting, isn’t it?
On his birthday, Nick Knowles was unable to attend his own party because his vehicle broke down en route, making him change a tire which led to an injury that could potentially jeopardize his participation in Strictly.
Nick, aged 62 and a well-known figure on DIY SOS, shared that he had hurt his arm during an incident on Sunday while his vehicle broke down on the highway. He’s yet to receive updates from medical professionals regarding his ability to carry on with the program.
Not only was his Strictly Come Dancing progress affected by the injury, but he also had to miss out on celebrating his own birthday party due to it.
On Mondays episode of It Takes Two, Nick, aged 40, was joined by his dance partner Luba Mushtuk, 33. During the show, Nick mentioned that while driving his 10-year-old son to a party, their vehicle broke down. To make matters worse, he experienced worsening pain in his arm, causing additional delays.
‘I actually missed my birthday party because of being stuck on the motorway,’ he added.
Nick described the circumstances leading to his injury, disclosing that he had injured his arm while hastily attempting to replace a flat tire following a breakdown.
On my special day, I shared the joy with a grand family celebration. However, as I headed out to fetch my ten-year-old son for the festivities, our car unfortunately broke down on the highway due to a flat tire.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the two diligent officers from Taplow. They graciously assisted me in a pinch when I was having trouble with a tire. Their swift action and professional help were truly appreciated.
In the midst of a stormy downpour with enormous trucks thundering by, I found myself in a hurried situation. Swiftly, I aimed to switch out the tire without delay. However, in the process of removing it, I unintentionally strained my bicep and sustained an injury on my arm.
He shared that he first injured his bicep and arm, which subsequently worsened significantly, causing him to miss his own party due to a breakdown.
In response to Janette’s query about his future on the show, Nick expressed optimism, stating that he would learn more the following day.
‘I’m fully expecting to go into training and hopefully will be back on Saturday night.’
Afterward, Janette shared that Nick and Luba would perform an American Smooth dance set to Blur’s Parklife should they continue in the competition. She then wondered aloud about Luba’s strategy for coaching Nick, considering his current health situation.
As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement when our beloved dancer, Nick, casually mentioned that his signature sling will be adorned with some sparkle! And let me tell you, his precision in executing the move on his right arm remains as flawless as ever. What a treat it’ll be to witness his artistry under the spotlight!
Luba mentioned that they could focus on mastering flawless footwork for the Foxtrot part of their dance routine, and they aim to execute a lift as well, although they might need to find ways to accommodate the injury while practicing.
While Nick quipped: ‘Luckily I’m very big, and Luba is very light, one-arm lifts.’
When inquired about feeling anxious being close to the bottom after his first appearance on Strictly over the weekend, Nick replied that he would strive to give his all for the upcoming performance. If the spectators can observe his genuine efforts, they might lend their support to him.
The TV star added that despite being ‘held back’ by his injury, he can ‘hopefully improve’ on the show.
It’s said that Nick will consult with the physio from the BBC show on Tuesday, who will decide his future plans.
A source told The Sun on Monday: ‘Nick will learn whether he is able to stay on Strictly tomorrow.
He’s scheduled an appointment with the physio on set, and they’ll decide if he can dance this weekend.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6:15pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
