Strictly’s Nick Knowles, 62, sparks fears he may QUIT the show as he reveals his arm is in a sling after suffering a nasty injury
As a dedicated Strictly fan with years of watching under my belt, I must say that this year’s premiere episode was a rollercoaster ride! The excitement of seeing our favorite celebrities take to the dance floor was only matched by the suspense of who would stumble, who would shine, and who might end up with a cake in their face (looking at you, Nick).
There’s concern that Nick Knowles might step back from Strictly Come Dancing 2024, as he recently sustained a painful arm injury requiring a sling for recovery.
On Mondays latest episode of BBC’s show, the renowned DIY SOS personality, aged 62, danced in for the first time with his dance partner, Luba Mushtuk.
Meanwhile, Nick announced to his Instagram audience that he had hurt his arm and shoulder while changing a tire on his car by the roadside before it broke down, necessitating a pause in his second dance training preparations.
On Monday, Nick announced via a posted video that he was on his way to the Harley Street clinic for an examination, expressing his intention to inform followers about the condition of his injury before his scheduled performance on It Takes Two later in the day.
But he vowed that ‘nothing was going to stop him dancing’ ahead of the second live show this weekend.
Nick posted a video showing his arm in a sling. He mentioned: “I wanted to share some news. I’m currently wearing a sling, which is due to an incident where my car stopped on the side of the highway.
To ensure our safety since my son was with me in the car, I felt the need to swap the tire as swiftly as possible.
In my eagerness to remove the large wheel from my vehicle promptly, I ended up injuring my shoulder and arm slightly in the process.
Despite being uncertain about the specifics, I must admit that I’ve been experiencing quite a bit of discomfort. Fortunately, things have improved a tad this morning, and I’m off to London, specifically Harley Street, for a scan and some expert medical advice. However, afterward, I’ll be heading straight to my training session to learn the choreography for my upcoming dance routine.
‘I’ll catch up with you on It Takes Two a while from now, as I hope to share some new info and give you an update. Regardless, I’ll keep you in the loop throughout the day. Although things might not go perfectly, I’m certain I’ll be dancing this weekend!’
In their debut on Strictly, Nick and Luba earned 18 points with their energetic Jive performance set to the tune of We Built This City by Starship.
Nick remained faithful to his original background, donning a glittery, reflective orange vest and concluding the look with a builder’s hat that resembled a disco ball, for his dance performances titled “Jive” and “We Built This City.
Anton asked Nick, “Aren’t you just as thrilled as I am that everything went so well during the dance?” after the dance concluded.
However Craig received boos as he called the performance ‘pigeon-toed, stiff and flat footed’.
In my latest endeavor, I was fortunate enough to receive a mixed bag of scores for my initial showcase. Craig was gracious enough to award me a three, while Motsi, Shirley, and Anton were more generous with their fives.
At the celebration, Nick turned beet-red when the group serenaded him with “Happy Birthday” and brought out a cake. Just then, accomplished dancer Carlos playfully squished the cake right into Nick’s face.
Nick, from DIY SOS, voiced his concerns about live performances, yet expressed optimism that he will surpass expectations.
Luba responded with a sense of ease, “I’ve got this covered,” she assured her partner. Nick then expressed his joy, saying, “Then I’ll be quite content.
The initial live broadcast of the newest season of Strictly has allegedly suffered another setback, as viewership dropped to an all-time low for the show during its 20-year run.
Last week, my eyes were glued to the screen as I watched the pre-recorded launch. To my slight disappointment, The Sun shared that the viewership for Saturday’s episode dropped compared to previous years. Specifically, it had 6.7 million viewers this year, a decrease from 7.3 million viewers for the same episode last year and a significant dip from the staggering 10.2 million in 2020.
The performance has been caught up in a storm of debate due to allegations that the coaching methods used by the professional dancers towards the celebrities involve bullying and abusive conduct. Multiple instances of such misconduct have come to light.
For the first live performance after the initial reveal of pairings during last weekend’s premiere, all fifteen celebrities along with their professional dancing companions stepped onto the dance floor.
According to a source, the management had expressed concern after noticing a significant drop of about a million viewers in the pre-recorded show compared to the previous year.
It’s worrying for them that the initial live performance had a decrease in viewership. This could be more concerning if the decline persists into the upcoming week, as that’s when the first elimination episode takes place.
Currently, they are in a tense period of anticipation, as they hope that the decrease in live viewers will be counterbalanced by more people watching Strictly Come Dancing on iPlayer. However, the data required for this assessment can only be collected over several days or even weeks.
The Beeb values these live participants significantly since Strictly continues to be considered one of the rare programs offering a collective TV experience, where viewers gather to watch a show simultaneously at a fixed time.
TopMob have contacted BBC for comment.
In January, a controversy known as the Strictly scandal arose when actress Amanda Abbington claimed that her dance partner, Giovanni Pernice, had mistreated her. This allegation came about following her sudden departure from the show, which happened only five weeks into it.
Actress Amanda Abbington, aged 50, has leveled a sequence of allegations against Giovanni regarding his teaching techniques, characterizing his behavior as “unnecessarily harsh, abusive, cruel, and malicious.” However, he vehemently refutes all these accusations.
In the month of July, news broke out that Graziano Di Prima was dismissed from Strictly due to an incident where he allegedly showed aggression towards his dance partner, Love Island alum Zara McDermott.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6:15pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
