Strictly’s JB Gill makes a surprising admission about new dance partner Lauren Oakley as he shares a major health update on Amy Dowden after her health scare
As a die-hard Strictly Come Dancing fan with years of invested emotions and countless sleepless nights spent anxiously watching the show unfold, I must say that this latest turn of events has left me both heartbroken and intrigued. JB Gill’s new partner, Lauren Oakley, stepping in for the indomitable Amy Dowden is a change that none of us could have foreseen.
JB Gill shared that he’s adjusting to a fresh dance approach with his new partner, Lauren Oakley, as she took over for Amy Dowden who had to leave the competition.
For Icons Week, the JLS star, aged 37, received a fresh professional partner due to Amy’s hospitalization following a collapse backstage on Saturday.
JB mentioned that learning his newest dance routine with a new partner has become somewhat simpler due to the fact that they’ll be performing a Couple’s Choice style dance, which requires less time spent in hold.
During a conversation with OJ Bord on Scott Mills’ BBC Radio 2 show, he mentioned that every individual is unique, especially when working in pairs. For instance, Amy is slightly shorter than Lauren, but there are minor variations that make each one distinctive.
For someone like me, without prior professional experience, the challenge is to adjust my dancing style to suit theirs.
This week is exciting for me as I’m performing my couples’ choice dance, which means less emphasis on Ballroom hold or Latin partner work with lifts. Instead, it’s more about side-by-side routines since this weekend on the show is ‘Icons Week’. It provides us an opportunity to express ourselves collectively.
In essence, I believe this new method will suitably help me navigate the modifications we’ve experienced during the past week.
Over the coming weekend, I am excited to be part of a special performance alongside my partner, where we will showcase our bond through a heartfelt Couple’s Choice routine, set to the melodious tunes of Bruno Mars’ music. This year, we are humbled to honor some of the most influential figures in music history by paying tribute to their timeless hits.
Additionally, JB shared that his former dance partner Amy is “giving herself time to recover,” following news that she would not participate in the upcoming live performance due to fainting backstage during the last weekend’s show.
He continued: ‘We’ve been able to build an incredible rapport over the last six or seven weeks and it’s been great going to the training room with her and working on the new routine and, you know, for me, learning different styles – whether it’s a Ballroom style or new Latin style – and then watching that process sort of, as it builds, into the show that we put on, on the Saturday night.
It’s been quite unusual not having her during rehearsals this week. However, on a positive note, it’s great that she’s taking time off to recuperate. We sincerely hope she makes a swift and full recovery.
During Icons Week, it will mark the first time JB and Lauren dance together live on stage, as the professional dancer stepped in to replace Amy following her sudden hospitalization after filming on Saturday night. The Welsh dancer had to temporarily step away from BBC’s show due to health concerns.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the television program’s headquarters in Hertfordshire past nine o’clock on Saturday night, due to news about a health crisis.
Just a moment ago, the dancer had danced the Foxtrot to the song “Dancing in the Moonlight” by Toploader, alongside her famous partner, JB Gill from JLS.
As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but share the thrill as my favorite duo soared to rank five on the Strictly leaderboard! Their exceptional performance earned them a combined score of 32 from the discerning eyes of judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke. What a night to remember!
According to Dowden’s representative, Amy wasn’t feeling well, so they decided to call an ambulance just to be safe.
She’s feeling significantly improved and wants to express her gratitude to the Strictly community for their affection and care.
They added: ‘We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected.’
2023 saw Amy’s life take a dramatic turn as she received a devastating cancer diagnosis, just one day after returning home from her honeymoon with her partner, the renowned dancer Ben Jones.
Initially, she had hoped that surgery would cure the condition, but two months later, in June, doctors discovered a different kind of cancer instead.
That year proved to be the most challenging for the dedicated dancer, who went through a mastectomy, chemotherapy, fertility treatments, and came close to dying from septic shock.
Amy, who also battles Crohn’s disease, confirmed she was cancer-free in February.
