Strictly’s ‘golden couple’ Kai Widdrington and Nadiya Bychkova put on a ‘frosty’ display and were ‘kept apart’ at the NTAs following split
As someone who has followed Strictly Come Dancing for years, it’s always fascinating to see the dynamics behind the scenes. The recent incident at the National Television Awards between Kai Widdrington and Nadiya Bychkova was quite intriguing. I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia seeing them walk the red carpet separately, reminding me of the golden days when they were the talk of the show.
Previously, Kai Widdrington and Nadiya Bychkova were the beloved pair on Strictly Come Dancing, yet at the National Television Awards last night, they were deliberately separated due to their ongoing disagreements as Strictly celebrities.
Initially, the skilled dancers made their entrance individually along the crimson carpet. The spotlight primarily focused on Nadiya, aged 35, who confidently walked the carpet in a frilly pink gown adorned with an extended train.
After her contentious breakup with Kai, aged 29, who attended separate red carpet events with his radio DJ companion Tyler West in June, she subsequently held discussions with BBC executives regarding a complaint she had about Strictly.
An onlooker said: ‘When the pair got inside the O2 they gave each other a very wide berth.’
The organizers made sure that uncomfortable camera angles were avoided by separating the chilly duo during the event.
As a devoted admirer, I stood by Angela Rippon’s side throughout the evening, eager to extend my support following her partner’s recent demotion.
‘Kai stood prominently by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman when Strictly’s award was being accepted, but Nadiya was missing from the scene.’
If their behavior is like this at a party, then you can only imagine how it must be during rehearsals.
Supporters of Kai, who partnered with Rippon in the 2023 series, believe that his separation from the main pairing may have hindered his prominence on the flagship dance program. This assumption arises after it was disclosed that he won’t be teamed up with a celebrity this season and will instead focus on group performances only.
At the red carpet event, Kai shared with Mail Online: “Sometimes people find themselves single, and that’s just how life goes. I’ll be there to cheer on my coworkers.
‘I have several musical performances lined up, including guest spots. Additionally, you’ll see me on Morning Live and It Takes Two. I will also be part of the Christmas special. I want to clarify that while I won’t be dancing with a celebrity, I’ll still be quite active in these engagements.’
It seems everyone desires to meet a celebrity, but alas, that opportunity didn’t present itself this year for me. Fingers crossed, perhaps I’ll have my chance next year. Unfortunately, there are only nine male celebrities and six female celebrities available at the moment.
Inquired about the number of groups in the upcoming 20th anniversary series, he responded: ‘We’ve filmed quite a few of them, and there are some truly spectacular dance routines on the horizon.’
