Strictly's Chris McCausland reveals innovative way his professional partner Dianne Buswell teaches him the routine

As an avid fan of Strictly Come Dancing and a lifelong comedy enthusiast, I must say that Chris McCausland‘s journey on this season is nothing short of inspiring! The comedian, who has been gracing our screens for over two decades now, continues to surprise us with his resilience and adaptability.

As a dedicated admirer putting pen to paper, let me share that Chris McCausland himself unveiled the creative method his Strictly Come Dancing companion, Dianne Buswell, employs to guide him through the dance routine.

The comedian, aged 47, who recently became the first visually impaired competitor on the popular BBC program, shared that he likens himself to a “flexible Spider-Man” during rehearsals as he works through the dance routines.

Chris acknowledged that at first, Diane was unsure about teaching him choreography, and they experimented with various techniques to find one that worked best for both of them.

On “The Graham Norton Show” this past Friday, he shared: ‘At the beginning, we didn’t have a clue about how to pull it off, so we chose to improvise and find out as we went along. I hadn’t been trained in dance, and Dianne had never taught someone who was blind.’

As an ardent admirer, I find myself often left guessing at her intentions. At times, I must crawl on all fours to decipher her movements, particularly those involving her legs and feet. Other moments, I find pieces of myself being moved to locations she deems fit.

He added: ‘I’m like a bendy Spiderman! But whatever it is we are doing it is working.’

Over the past weekend, Chris shared his thoughts and mentioned, “Attending Blackpool was absolutely delightful; it feels akin to Wembley for ballroom dancing.

‘I’m actually surprised I’m still in it. It was perfect and I celebrated like I’d won the FA cup!’

As your go-to lifestyle guide, I must share some exciting, yet unfortunate news about our beloved comedian and dance enthusiast, Chris. Regrettably, he finds himself unable to join the Strictly Come Dancing tour this season, as it conflicts with his own scheduled comedy tour commitments. Keep an eye out for both events; you won’t want to miss either!

The comedian has left BBC bosses with a big headache as he is the bookies’ favourite to win the show.

Last Saturday in Blackpool, Chris and his dance partner Dianne received an impressive 37 out of 40 points from the judges following their performance of the American Smooth dance.

The Strictly live tour initially kicked off in January 2009, featuring the 2008 winner Tom Chambers as one of the performers. Each winner following him has participated.

However, his comedy act, titled “Yonks,” is scheduled across January and February, conflicting head-on with the live stage performances of Strictly during the same period.

Last month, 100 extra dates were added to his tour, which runs from January 2025 to April 2026.

The Yonks tour has been rescheduled because Chris is involved with Strictly, and he firmly refuses to adjust the dates again.

During his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, he pointed out that despite appearing to have just started in TV work over the past five years, he’s actually been performing stand-up comedy for two decades.

I’m thoroughly enjoying it, as it has paved the way for a multitude of fantastic experiences, and now, these experiences are fueling my stand-up.

This small, charming circle truly captivates me. While I appreciate everything else around it, I’m eagerly anticipating my return to the open road, where I can excel at something I’m confident in doing.

The Graham Norton Show, BBC One, Friday 22nd November 10.40pm. Also available on BBC iPlayer.
