Strictly’s Chris McCausland confirmed for Channel 4’s Alternative Christmas Message
As a long-time fan of Strictly Come Dancing and a strong advocate for accessibility and inclusion, I am absolutely thrilled to see Chris McCausland taking on the role of delivering Channel 4’s Alternative Christmas Message this year! His victory on Strictly and his ongoing work as an advocate for disabled people make him the perfect choice for this important platform.
Comedian Chris McCausland, known for his role on “Strictly Come Dancing,” will collaborate with Channel 4 for their unconventional holiday message this year.
Each year since 1993, this event offers a distinctive twist on the usual holiday message typically given by the British Royal Family. The topics and tones can change quite a bit.
After his victory in the 22nd season of the BBC program, McCausland has officially taken over as the next celebrity delivering the Alternative Message, succeeding previous presenter and ex-QI host Stephen Fry.
The funny guy, with a past appearance on “EastEnders,” intends to utilize the platform to advocate for enhancements in the Access to Work grant provided by the government, designed to cover work-related expenses for those who are employed and have disabilities.
In the message, McCausland expressed concerns about the delays encountered by individuals when utilizing Access to Work. He further emphasized that the prolonged waiting period for funding could erode the “self-assurance, respect, and sense of purpose” of those with disabilities.
He stated, “Many disabled individuals are remarkably resourceful, tenacious, and inspiring – qualities you’ll find few equals for. In our day-to-day lives, we develop these skills out of necessity, making us invaluable team members. And let me tell you, we’ve even claimed victories at national dance competitions!
The announcement comes just over a week after McCausland lifted the Glitterball Trophy alongside professional partner Dianne Buswell, with the comedian paying tribute to the dancer following their victory.
I’m absolutely amazed, to be honest, I truly believed I could leave within the first week or two. I knew no one else did, but I held onto that hope. Dianne has drawn so much from me; she truly deserves this. She’s simply a joy to make jokes with. This is dedicated to her and everyone who was told they couldn’t do something.
50 pm on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, “Strictly Come Dancing” graces our screens every Saturday on BBC One, while its spin-off, “Strictly: It Takes Two,” can be found on weeknights on BBC Two. You can catch both shows streaming on BBC iPlayer.
