Strictly’s cast and crew ‘are furious that Aljaž Škorjanec has returned to the show’ amid claims ‘he was involved in a shocking altercation with a female dancer’ before his 2022 exit
As a long-time fan of Strictly Come Dancing, it’s disheartening to see the recent allegations and controversies surrounding some of its stars. It’s important to remember that behind the glitz and glamour of the show lies the real lives of individuals who are striving to entertain us.
The cast and team behind Strictly Come Dancing are said to be upset by the alleged comeback of pro dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, due to whispers that he had a heated argument with another female dancer off-stage.
The Slovenian dancer, who’s now 34, is planning to rejoin the BBC program for its upcoming season, following a disagreement during the 2022 live tour, as reported by The Sun, nearly two years later.
During that period, it was said that Aljaz decided to leave the program following an unexpected incident involving another female dance partner during their national tour.
A source told the publication: ‘Has the BBC learned nothing from the past ten months?
Amidst the continuous uproar concerning the conduct of its male professionals, I’ve noticed their recent move to bring on board a dancer who had previously departed under questionable circumstances.
Contrary to the widespread acclaim, Aljaž was not the trouble-free comeback star as some might have suggested.
Two years back, the source stated that the team and actors felt “grateful” when he left, but now they seem “shocked” or “dismayed.
It was disclosed that two years ago during a tour, he reportedly consumed an excessive amount of alcohol, leading to a highly disturbing incident involving a woman with whom he had a confrontation of great severity.
The incident was said to have made the female dancer feel ‘deeply uncomfortable’.
Backstage, there’s been a lot of debate about Aljaž’s scene, and many are surprised by the choice to have him return, as it has left the crew puzzled.
‘Execs would have to be living in a cave not to have heard the rumours’, the source added.
As per the report, the BBC disputes claims that a formal complaint was lodged regarding the incident, and it was earlier mentioned that Aljaz voluntarily chose to leave.
The BBC declined to comment and TopMob has reached out to Aljaž’s representatives for a comment.
The return of the professional dancer, who is married to fellow Strictly pro and It Takes Two host Janette Manrara is the latest drama to hit the BBC show, following a string of controversies.
Over the past few months, a state of disarray has ensued due to numerous accusations of misconduct by professionals being exposed.
Last year, Amanda Abbington left the show amid allegations that she made against her partner, Giovanni Pernice, accusing him of being abusive. She subsequently departed from the program. However, Giovanni has strongly refuted these accusations.
50-year-old Amanda has taken an unexpected break from the BBC show, explaining it as personal matters. Since then, she hasn’t appeared on television, and she also stepped away from social media platforms recently following the dismissal of her previous dancing companion.
Giovanni, aged 33, has been temporarily withdrawn from work as the BBC conducts an investigation into accusations leveled against him by Amanda and two other ex-celebrity associates.
Previous reports suggested that Amanda, Ranvir Singh, and Laura Whitmore met for a heartfelt gathering to discuss their shared experiences while working alongside Giovanni on the program, exchanging insights and feelings.
Amanda stepped down from Strictly Come Dancing because of personal matters, following speculation that she asked for videos of their practice sessions after her time on the show caused her Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Back in 2020, I couldn’t help but voice my concerns about Giovanni to the producers as we were both on the show. And let me tell you, three years prior in 2016, Laura was right there with me, shedding tears daily and feeling uneasy while dancing with him. We were both deeply affected by his presence.
At the moment, it’s thought that the BBC is thoroughly reviewing nearly a decade of Strictly Come Dancing recordings in order to verify or disprove accusations made by three famous individuals.
Giovanni has not returned for the show’s 2024 season.
Shortly thereafter, it came to light that Graziano Di Prima was dismissed due to an altercation with his girlfriend, Love Island contestant Zara McDermott, which resulted in him being physically aggressive towards her.
After the unexpected dismissal of Graziano from the program, management decided to implement changes such as assigning chaperones during training sessions and hiring two additional individuals responsible for employee wellbeing.
Love Island alum Zara recently spoke up about the controversy, sharing on Instagram early Tuesday that although her experience on Strictly was largely what she had hoped for, certain events within the training room were deeply upsetting and traumatic.
Zara started off by saying she thought it appropriate to share some thoughts about the latest news in the media,” she began. “Strictly, as far as television shows go, is truly enchanting, and ever since I was a young child, I’ve always aspired to be a part of it.
Zara explained that she didn’t report the incidents at the time as she was ‘scared’ of backlash.
Fresh reports surfaced suggesting that Zara had sustained a broken leg during practice, yet she persisted in dancing.
Despite suffering a painful injury during rehearsals for her dance routine, she gritted her teeth and bravely danced through the competition.
It’s believed that Zara shared details about the intense training sessions she underwent, alongside Graziano, during their time on the program, with the executives at the BBC.
Meanwhile, a confidant of Graziano shared with the media outlet that he advised her to rest occasionally, but she persisted in her training even though she was experiencing discomfort.
Later, a female Strictly dance partner found herself embroiled in controversy when it emerged she had shouted at her male counterpart during filming and criticized him away from the camera.
The Daily Mirror reported that the household name’s allegations do not include physical abuse.
According to a source, the man in question strongly believed that he was mistreated by the behavior of his dance partner on Strictly.
He claims that on numerous instances, she would become extremely angry when he struggled with the steps, and once even shouted directly at him. Every day, they had arguments.
‘He ended up feeling distraught, tossing and turning at night, and incredibly lonely throughout the ordeal. What made things even more difficult was his perception that Strictly did not offer any support during this challenging time. When the unfortunate event occurred, it was evident he was struggling, yet he felt there was no obligation to help. After departing the program, he didn’t receive any further contact, not even a phone call.’
The source said he had been in a bad place and feared a public backlash if he spoke out.
Despite facing controversy last year, when allegations arose about his behavior being perceived as aggressive and arrogant towards show staff, Aljaž is poised for a comeback.
In 2022, Aljaz, who previously worked alongside Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies on the show, announced his departure from Strictly Come Dancing. Insiders mentioned that he had been hesitant to leave earlier but eventually chose to pursue new ventures instead.
According to a source, individuals from the Strictly Come Dancing crew felt quite distressed due to certain occurrences related to Aljaz in the show’s prior season.
They noted that he had spoken harshly, even aggressively, towards several colleagues privately, which led others to believe his behavior was unnecessary harsh.
Some found Aljaz to be overly confident and haughty, which didn’t sit well with several members of the team. Few will lament his departure.
Nonetheless, a spokesperson for Aljaz clarified to the media outlet: “Aljaz holds great esteem for all individuals involved in the program. It’s not accurate to suggest that he was coerced off the show or displayed aggressive behavior at any point in time.
‘It was Aljaz’s decision to leave the show after an incredible 9 years.’
Sarah James, the Executive Producer of Strictly Come Dancing, expressed regret when she announced, “It’s hard for us to bid farewell to Aljaž, who has been a part of our professional dancing team for nearly a decade on Strictly Come Dancing.
Ever since his first series, where he lifted the glitterball with Abbey Clancy, he has earned the affection of viewers nationwide and is now considered a beloved figure among them.
Over the course of nine seasons, he’s given us a string of indelible performances on the program, thanks to his exceptional dance routines, deep love for dancing, and golden heart.
His Strictly colleagues, both those he danced with and those behind the scenes, will dearly miss him, as well as extend their warmest wishes for an outstanding journey ahead as he moves onto a new phase in life.
It was recently disclosed that Aljaz decided to depart from Strictly some time ago after careful consideration. He expresses gratitude for the opportunity the show gave him to fulfill his dream.
