Strictly’s Anton Du Beke seen for first time since being dragged into misconduct scandal after breaking his social media silence

Strictly's Anton Du Beke seen for first time since being dragged into misconduct scandal after breaking his social media silence

As someone who has spent years in the entertainment industry, I can’t help but feel a sense of sadness and disbelief at the recent events surrounding Strictly Come Dancing. Having worked with many talented professionals over the years, I have seen firsthand the camaraderie and support that exists between dancers and crew members.

Anton Du Beke made a public appearance for the first time since becoming involved in the Strictly Come Dancing conduct controversy.

After being quiet about the issue for a long time, the judge, age 58, spoke up following allegations of his past behavior towards Laila Rouass on Strictly Come Dancing in the 1970s, which drew attention and raised worries.

During the 2009 competition, he made Laila, a contestant with Indian and Moroccan heritage, cry by making a lighthearted yet insensitive comment about her appearance after a spray tan, which re-emerged this week.

On Saturdays, Anton came in a relaxed outfit when he made it to Venue Cymru, Llandudno, Wales, for his scheduled performance alongside former “Strictly” pro Giovanni Pernice, aged 33.

Gwendolyn personally faces suspension as the BBC investigates allegations of inappropriate conduct outside of the camera’s reach from Amanda Abbington, age 50, and two other ex-celebrity spouses. Meanwhile, Anton has expressed his backing for Giovanni.

The judge donned a teal T-shirt and matching shorts, casually slinging a navy blue sweater over one arm.

On his birthday last weekend, Anton responded to the recent misconduct allegations against him by sharing multiple Instagram posts that he had previously reposted.

Anton expressed regret and apologized to Laila for his mortifying and embarrassing remarks towards the actress at that moment in time. Later on, they reconciled and made up around a few weeks after the incident.

Along with Giovanni, the professional dancer Graziano Di Prima, aged 30, was let go from the show this week. Afterward, he expressed regret for physically attacking his celebrity partner Zara McDermott, who is 27 years old, during rehearsals last year.

Hannah, Anton’s spouse, posted sweet messages together with pictures of their six-year-old twins, George and Henrietta.

She wrote: “Happy birthday, dear Anton Du Beke George! Ra Ra and I are filled with love for you and eagerly anticipate our reunion to celebrate together. We’ll give you a call soon for a serenade… Get ready for Granny’s surprise! Happy birthday, my dearest. I adore you.” ❤️

He shared Hannah du Beke’s message anew and commented: “A beautiful message to kick off my birthday week. Many thanks to you, Hannah. I’m excited to spend the day with everyone on Monday. My love for you runs deep.”

Anton caused an uproar when it was disclosed that he referred to Laila as a derogatory term for a person of darker skin tone during her attendance at rehearsals with her applied tanning makeup.

A source told The Sun: ‘Anton has a very 1970s attitude and can be abrasive.

As the distinction between what’s appropriate and not becomes more ambiguous, some individuals have discovered that they can collaborate effectively with him.

Despite some grumblings of dissatisfaction when he was a dancer, the BBC still chose to promote him. This situation seems rather peculiar.

As a lifestyle expert, I believe in maintaining transparency and authenticity when communicating with the public. However, when it comes to addressing individual situations or participating in rumors and speculations, I adopt a policy of discretion. So, if TopMob were to reach out to me regarding the BBC, my response would be: “I cannot comment on specific individuals or engage in conjecture.”

Based on my own experiences and interactions with various individuals and organizations, I strongly believe in the importance of open communication and active listening. Just as I have learned throughout my life, there are times when people come to us with valuable information or concerns that deserve our attention. In such cases, it is essential for us to listen carefully and respond appropriately.

TopMob contacted Anton Du Beke’s representative for comment at the time.

Back in 2009, during the uproar over his comment, it came to light that Anton had made a joking remark to Laila, implying she could be a terrorist because of her North African background.

After the revelation on It Takes Two, Laila shared: “We’re handling this as a team. This past week has been challenging for us both… However, we’re focused on looking forward.”

‘This happened weeks ago and we’ve been getting on very well.’

Anton expressed again his regret and apologized to Laila, the entire show team, and viewers at home for his actions last weekend. He felt ashamed and foolish.

Instead, he added: “That was foolish behavior, both in action and in words. Unfortunately, it’s drawing attention away from the terrific show we put on.”

‘As I say I am mortified about it, completely, and Laila has been quite remarkably wonderful.’

Bruce Forsyth issued an apology through the BBC, acknowledging that his previous remarks about the controversy may not have been taken humorously by all.

In an interview with TalkSport radio, he shared: “Looking back, we found humor in this situation. Go back 25, 30, or 40 years, and you’ll find that people have often joked about it.”

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that sentence as follows: “Once upon a time, people from America referred to us with the not-so-flattering term ‘limeys.’ We might have chuckled about it back then since everyone seems to have their unique monikers.”

But hours later a statement from Bruce was issued by the BBC.

“Anton’s statement to Laila was inconsiderate and he has issued a sincere apology. I don’t support or approve of such language.”

In simple terms, using racist language is neither amusing nor appropriate under any circumstances.

Although there’s a significant distinction: this isn’t the same as hateful remarks intended to harm, even if we acknowledge the prevalence of heightened sensitivity towards language in today’s society.

The statement added ‘these are my personal views and not necessarily those of the BBC’.

Last month, reports revealed that Anton had strongly supported Giovanni following his departure from Strictly Come Dancing due to a serious misconduct investigation by the BBC.

In June and July, the duo will team up for a real-life performance named “Giovanni and Anton Live”: A Tour.

On Instagram Stories, Giovanni shared a video of the two friends. In the related promotional image, they are seen embracing each other, symbolizing their strong bond.

Anton began by expressing his enthusiasm for the first day of rehearsals, calling it his favorite. However, he admitted that the second day held less appeal for him. This elicited a laugh from Giovanni.

With a smile on his face and seeming upbeat, Giovanni remarked, “We need to recall all details from our first day. Feels great to be back on the road again.”

After Graziano’s unexpected dismissal from the show, company heads made it known that they would be implementing chaperones during trainings and hiring two new welfare coordinators.

Based on my own experiences working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, I believe the announcement made by the producers of “Strictly Come Dancing” about implementing extra measures to enhance welfare and support for its cast is a positive step towards creating a more nurturing and inclusive work environment. As someone who has seen firsthand the physical and emotional demands that come with being part of such a high-pressure production, I understand the importance of ensuring that all cast members are well taken care of both on and off camera. This not only benefits the individuals themselves but also contributes to the overall success and harmony of the show. Kudos to the producers for recognizing this need and taking action to prioritize the well-being of their talent.

In response to concerns raised in the past few months primarily regarding training and preparation, we are taking steps to address these issues with the announcements made today.

As a committed member of our production team, I’m now required to be present during all training room rehearsals to ensure a smooth process. Additionally, I’m thrilled to provide enhanced assistance to our esteemed celebrity contestants and skilled professional dancers.

Two new roles will be filled: a Celebrity Welfare Coordinator and a Professional Dancer Welfare Coordinator, who will take on additional responsibilities. Additionally, the production team and crew will receive additional training.

Kate Phillips, BBC’s Director of Unscripted, stated: “Our shows have brought joy to many participants. However, if concerns arise or we learn about unacceptable conduct, we will promptly address them.”

Based on my experience working in theater production, I have noticed that concerns often revolve around the training and rehearsal process. However, I am encouraged by the decisive actions being taken today to bolster the welfare and support systems for everyone involved in this production. These steps will undoubtedly benefit us all, as they align with my belief that a well-prepared cast and crew is essential for a successful show.
