Strictly’s Amy Dowden reveals why she refuses to look at the rumoured line-up as she insists she’s ‘stronger than ever’ ahead of returning to the show after cancer battle

Amy Dowden from Strictly Come Dancing admitted that the toughest period for her was after she rang the chemo bell, signifying the end of her cancer treatment.

As a cancer survivor now in remission, I’ve come to realize just how important it is to continue supporting and checking in on those who have beaten this terrible disease. Let’s not forget about our fellow survivors – we must make an effort to keep their spirits high and remind them they are never alone in their journey.

In my case, I had an overwhelming amount of support from my friends and relatives, who stood by us in our time of need. However, it’s disheartening to hear that many others have shared similar stories where they reached out for help but received no response – leading them to believe the person was okay when, in fact, they might not have been.

However, they are unaware that it is precisely at this point where things become most challenging. This is when you have completed all your chemotherapy treatments, when even climbing stairs feels like a monumental task, and when the effects of cancer treatment and diagnosis are particularly pronounced.

‘I think it’s important that people just having a better understanding.’

has revealed why she refuses to look at the show’s rumoured line-up.

The popular BBC show will make its comeback on television screens in September, featuring several famous personalities such as Dani Dyer, Stacey Solomon, and Vicky Pattison rumored to participate.

Nevertheless, although anticipation grows regarding the performers, dancer Amy, aged 34, shared in an exclusive conversation with TopMob that she deliberately sidesteps the conjecture, preferring her dance partner to be a delightful and unexpected revelation.

As I stand here, brimming with vitality and resilience, I can confidently say that I’m stronger than ever before. Preparing to step back onto the dance floor alongside my fellow professionals, I look forward to the upcoming series with a renewed zest for life. After a challenging battle with breast cancer, I’ve come out on the other side, ready to shine and inspire as only I can.

Regarding the supposed cast list for the 2025 show, Amy mentioned that she hasn’t come across it herself and typically avoids such speculations. In fact, most of those names usually aren’t part of the show in the first place.

‘We don’t get told anything, and I’m glad we don’t because I want a lovely surprise.’

Amy mentioned that she’s been working on the show Celebrity Hunted with Carlos Gu, which is why she hasn’t had a chance to observe anything lately.

She stated: ‘To be completely truthful, I rarely don’t glance at things, as more often than not, it is untrue that I don’t.’

Currently, Amy maintains that she’s never felt more fit and strong due to her continuous cancer recovery process and the incident last year that required her to withdraw from that particular series.

At the tender age of 32 in 2023, the star was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. From the outset, she chose to publicly document her experience, hoping that by doing so, she could offer support and encouragement to others facing similar challenges.

When someone inquired about how she recognized the lump she found a day before her honeymoon was unusual, she confessed that the secret behind her timely, potentially life-saving diagnosis was becoming familiar with her breasts prior to the event.

She said: ‘It was a real solid lump for a start, and it wasn’t on the other breast.’

The dancer, who had to withdraw from last year’s Strictly due to a foot injury, emphasized: “Whenever you have doubts, consult your general practitioner. Schedule a check-up.

As a die-hard fan, let me say this humbly: Regardless of its size, don’t fret about being bothersome. It’s precisely because our society values everyone equally that we have the comprehensive healthcare system we do.

Last year, following surgery and chemotherapy, Amy received the reassuring news that there was no sign of cancer in her body. Now, however, she is vocalizing about the most prolonged aspect of her experience – her road to recovery.

In simple terms, people who have previously been diagnosed with breast cancer are most likely to experience a recurrence within the initial five years after their diagnosis.

The star exclaimed: ‘I was terribly mistaken – I genuinely believed that by ringing the bell, I could somehow restore my life.’

‘I wasn’t aware of nor prepared for the lengthy process of recovery, both in terms of physical and mental aspects. If I could have known beforehand, I would have been better prepared.’

Amy shared that, in partnership with Keep Ahead – an initiative by Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK aimed at educating about cancer’s aftermath – she’s facing some tough years yet. However, she manages to navigate the unpredictability by pursuing her passion: dance.

This year, I’ve been fully immersed in it – learning dance, going on theater tours, and finally having the opportunity to pursue what brings me joy and happiness has helped me get through challenging periods.

At the unveiling of Keep Ahead, a campaign spearheaded and backed financially by Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK, Amy was delivering a speech.

The goal is to educate individuals about life post-cancer, the apprehension and possibility of reoccurrence, and encourage those dealing with breast cancer to actively participate in deciding their treatment and care plans.
