Strictly Star’s Job in Jeopardy After Sick Sexual Jibe at Female Presenter
Wynne Evans may face dismissal from his position at the BBC following a new scandal involving him on Strictly Come Dancing, according to public relations specialists, who caution that the situation could lead to a separation between them.
This week, Evans, renowned for his opera singing work and radio broadcasts on BBC Radio Wales, was secretly filmed by The Mail On Sunday during a promotional event in Birmingham for the Strictly live tour. Shockingly, footage captured him making an offensive sexual remark at the photocall.
Recently, Evans found himself in a controversial situation when he was secretly heard proposing an unrefined threesome involving presenter Janette Manrara, using a highly disrespectful phrase “spit-roast” in a private conversation.
The incident occurred following allegations that Evans was inappropriately touching his dance partner Katya Jones, who is 35 years old, during live broadcasts back in October. However, they both claimed it was a harmless joke that was misconstrued.
A few weeks after, the radio host on BBC Radio Wales, known for his daily show at 9am, found himself in more turmoil due to a lewd joke he made towards a makeup artist regarding his double chin being similar to a female reproductive organ.
Recently, a humorous remark from Evans about a “barbecue” has sparked more debate for the show Strictly Come Dancing, already embroiled in controversy due to the Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice incident that occurred last year, causing quite a stir.
Following three embarrassing slip-ups in just a few months, Nick Ede, an expert on brand and culture, warned TopMob: “The BBC needs to exercise great caution with Wynne, as his contentious and explicit remarks are likely to overshadow his popularity soon. The BBC can no longer ignore such behavior, as they won’t tolerate it anymore.
‘He’s determined to keep his job, yet everyone will closely watch him. If he takes another step that could harm them, the BBC might need to cut its connection with him.’
Recently, Evans made headlines once more due to his bold remarks, as he was captured in photos alongside Ms. Manrara, a 41-year-old dancer and host of the live event, and Jamie Borthwick, a 30-year-old actor from EastEnders.
In the video, it’s hard to tell how Ms. Manrara reacts because she’s briefly hidden behind other Strictly contestants for a moment. However, Borthwick seems to flinch while Evans chuckles to himself.
On Saturday, Evans withdrew from his Glasgow appearance on the Strictly tour due to an ankle injury. However, he expressed remorse to The Mail on Sunday over using inappropriate and unacceptable language, for which he offered a genuine apology.
A representative from BBC Studios and the organizers of the Strictly Live tour stated: “Prior to this, we weren’t informed about the comment and hadn’t received any reports of concerns. We have firmly communicated to Wynne that such actions are not acceptable during the tour, and they will not be tolerated.
Following the release of the video by the Mail, Evans boldly shared a teaser for his upcoming BBC program titled “Wynne and Joanna: All At Sea” on Instagram.
As a keen explorer, I’ll embark on an adventure, sailing along the picturesque coastline of South Wales, accompanied by the talented Joanna Page, best known for her role in Gavin & Stacey.
In response to the recent event, Mr Ede stated: “The BBC understands that when it comes to Strictly, everyone is watching closely. Although the show is currently not airing, the live tour remains a significant production for them and continues to boost the format’s popularity nationwide. It provides people across the country with the feeling of being part of the Strictly family.
The focus has been on the behavior of the professional dancers, but now the spotlight has shifted to Wynne Evans from Wales. He’s become a subject of debate because of his relationship with Katya and some of his dad jokes that haven’t gone over too favorably.
As a devoted follower, I can certainly empathize with the BBC’s ongoing challenge of managing their talent pool and maintaining a professional environment. The recent occurrence involving Wynne crossing the line with his suggestive “dad joke” directed at host Janette has undeniably added to this complex task.
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but notice that certain incidents in the past might have been dismissed as mere nerves or playful banter. However, given the intense scrutiny under which this show operates, even minor misconduct can lead to a magnified response. To prevent any unnecessary escalation and potential harm to the brand, the BBC felt compelled to address the issue promptly.
Mr. Ede cautioned that although Evans is highly admired and beloved on the BBC, he might face reprimands because the producers don’t wish for any additional complaints or legal issues as the upcoming season of Strictly approaches.
The most recent event was recorded both visually and audibly by a journalist from the Mail on Sunday during the official kickoff of this year’s tour at the Birmingham Arena about ten days ago, adding to the BBC’s growing sense of shame following a series of controversies.
In the most unfortunate circumstances, news broadcaster Huw Edwards was found guilty of viewing inappropriate images involving children aged as young as seven.
In the aftermath of accusations concerning inappropriate sexual behavior, Gregg Wallace eventually had to withdraw from MasterChef. Similarly, the show Strictly, once renowned for its family-friendly entertainment, found itself embroiled in controversy as well.
In the MoS film, a presenter from BBC Radio Wales finds himself surrounded by 20 celebrities and dancers. Suddenly, Manrara, who’s known for hosting Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two, is called over to join them. As she makes her way towards them, Evans, with a smile on his face, cautions her, “Don’t get too close to Jamie!
Afterward, he subtly makes a hinting expression towards the actor, while Ms. Manrara isn’t looking, as she passes by them. It’s precisely at this moment that Evans cracks his offensive joke about her.
Moments after, her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec, who stood close by, inquired: “Sweetheart, are you alright?” To which she responded briskly: “Yes.
Ms. Manrara’s representative stated that the host didn’t realize the remark made by Wynne, which was clearly heard by our reporter using a mobile phone from approximately twenty yards away.
Apart from competing in Strictly the previous year, Evans, a father of two, emerged victorious in Celebrity MasterChef back in 2023. Starting tonight on BBC1, his latest travel show, titled All At Sea, co-stars Joanna Page, known for her role in Gavin and Stacey.
The fact that he made his “spit-roast” comment at a public media event will undoubtedly enrage Corporation executives who are working tirelessly to restore Strictly‘s reputation, which has been tarnished by bullying allegations and accusations of a toxic work environment among junior staff.
2023 saw Amanda Abbington voice concerns three days into dance rehearsals with her partner, Giovanni Pernice.
Approximately a year afterward, the BBC issued an apology to her, validating her allegations of verbal mistreatment and harassment, yet exonerating Pernice from accusations of physical violence.
Following the revelation, Graziano Di Prita was dismissed due to a video from rehearsals depicting him kicking Love Island celebrity Zara McDermott.
Previously, Evans captured the hearts of countless Strictly viewers through his cheerfulness and unwavering resolve to learn dancing. However, he subsequently encountered criticism when viewers noticed an uncomfortable moment involving Ms. Jones, who was seen forcefully pulling Evans’ hand away from her waist as they posed for photos backstage.
Later on, Evans attempted to slap a friendly five with his companion, yet she responded with a disapproving glance, a sigh accompanied by an eye roll, and walked off dismissively.
Or simply:
After that, Evans wanted to give his friend a high five, but she looked at him disdainfully, rolled her eyes, and walked away.
In an effort to calm things down, Evans and Ms. Jones explained that their interaction was simply playful banter and it stemmed from a rather amusing inside joke.
Or:
Attempting to diffuse the disagreement, Evans and Ms. Jones clarified that their exchange was just good-natured fun and originated from a rather humorous private joke they share.
Two weeks on, the Welsh tenor stirred more uproar with his humor as he quipped to a makeup artist about his double chin resembling a vagina.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must clarify that my jest was intended to be self-mocking, devoid of any intentional offense. It was shared during a private gathering with at least one other individual present. Whether a complaint was lodged or an investigation ensued remains uncertain.
A week following the “spit-roasting” remark, Evans made an appearance on The One Show to discuss the playful banter during their tour. He explained: “It’s all in good fun… Craig [Revel Horwood] phoned me yesterday, he said I was clumsy and had no arches.
I told him, ‘Your album seems rather dull and lackluster, my friend,’ and yes, there was plenty of friendly teasing involved.
Yesterday, he handed me a two [dollar bill], which left me quite disappointed, since I had been somewhat impolite towards his album.
In 2016, when Evans and his wife of 17 years, Tanwen, chose to separate, his clinical depression took hold, leading him to gain weight up to a staggering 22 stones.
Currently, he’s in a relationship with Liz Brookes, a 50-year-old events manager and fitness enthusiast, who has been attributed to his remarkable 42-pound (7 stones) weight loss.
