Strictly star JB Gill admits wife Chloe Tangney is ‘so jealous’ of him dancing with pro partners Amy Dowden and Lauren Oakley – but NOT because of the show’s infamous curse
As a seasoned observer of the world of entertainment, I must say that the lives of these celebrities are a rollercoaster ride of emotions and experiences.
JB Gill, a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, shared that his wife Chloe Tangney feels quite envious due to his involvement with the BBC program.
Despite being a part of the Strictly Come Dancing, where he partnered with Amy Dowden and later Lauren Oakley, the 37-year-old star confessed that he isn’t apprehensive about the show’s infamous curse, but rather feels envious about his successful weight loss journey.
In simpler terms, JB, a father of a 10-year-old son named Ace and a 6-year-old daughter Chiara (who he has been married to for ten years), mentioned to The Sun that he’s facing criticism from his partner Chloe due to her intense jealousy.
‘My pants are all too large, it’s almost comical. In reality, I went on It Takes Two recently, and these pants are a 34-inch waist, which is typically my size. To be honest, I could fit my hand between my hip and the pants. It’s absurd!’
Previously, I measured around 32 inches, but it’s been quite some time since I last did so in school. It seems that the size has decreased significantly since then.
After collapsing on stage during their Halloween performance, Amy had to resign from her professional partnership with JB due to a foot injury that required recovery. Subsequently, Lauren took over her role.
After her departure, JB commended Amy for the dedication she showed during their rehearsals, telling The Mirror: “She certainly didn’t disappoint. Amy has been an exceptional mentor. She worked tirelessly for me, and it was wonderful that we were able to form a strong connection and understanding.
‘From day one, we worked on our partnership and worked on the things that we were passionate about.
It’s truly disheartening, as Amy puts it, that things have turned out this way and we can’t change the past. However, we press on, focusing on what lies ahead. It’s comforting to know that she remains by my side.
JB noted that Lauren exhibits exceptional teaching abilities, her approach differs from Amy’s, and they plan to put in significant effort.
Before we began rehearsing, JB shared with me earlier this year that he and his wife Chloe possess exceptional communication. He firmly believed that the infamous “Strictly Curse” wouldn’t disrupt their strong bond.
He explained: ‘We communicate incredibly well and we’ve always said that’s one of the keys to a very successful and strong relationship, let alone marriage. For us, this is not gonna change that at all.
As a devoted admirer, I find myself hopeful that the infamous “Strictly Curse” might be reaching its end this season, following the announcement that chaperones will now be consistently present during rehearsals to monitor the couples’ routine practices.
JB remarked: “In all truthfulness, I believe I have one of the finest wives a contestant on this show could possibly have, given her background in that field.
‘And although she wasn’t a ballroom dancer, we both understand what goes into it. We know that it’s not easy and it’s going to be difficult. She gets it, she’s been on tours herself.
She understands that teamwork is a necessary aspect of life, so she’s genuinely thrilled about it for me.
Chloe eagerly looks forward to sharing her advice, which I’m deeply appreciative of. Her perspective, especially on aspects I wouldn’t consider due to my lack of professional dance training, will provide invaluable insights for me to learn from and collaborate with a professional dancer.
‘She can’t wait for the journey to start just like me.’
In the popular lore known as ‘Strictly curse’, some well-known figures have experienced it. For instance, Rachel Riley, a contestant, started dating her professional partner Pasha Kovalev after parting ways with her former spouse Jamie Gilbert during their 2013 stint on the show.
Adam Peaty also split from his partner Eiri Munro after competing on Strictly in 2021.
In 2018, Seann Walsh ended his relationship with Rebecca Humphries, his girlfriend then, after photos emerged of him kissing his dance partner Katya Jones. Interestingly, Katya was married to another dancer named Neil, and they separated the following year.

JB encountered Chloe when she was serving as a backup dancer for JB’s pop group, JLS. On that momentous occasion, the singer declared it to be “the greatest day of my life.
On the Scottish island of Bute, Chloe and JB exchanged wedding vows, with their friends from JLS, Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, and Oritse Williams, present to celebrate the occasion.
