Strictly pros reveal their predictions for scandal-plagued programme’s future as bookies reveal new odds on show being axed
As a longtime fan of Strictly Come Dancing, I must say that the recent remarks from its stars and the fresh odds released by Betfred have piqued my interest. Having watched the show for years, I can attest to its transformative power and the joy it brings to millions of viewers.
As a die-hard Strictly Come Dancing enthusiast, here’s my take on the buzz surrounding our beloved show: With the series in turmoil, the pros have shared their forecasts for the contest.
Over the past few months, the dancing competition has been embroiled in a series of scandals. Most notably, Giovanni Pernice is under investigation following allegations by his celebrity partner Amanda Abbington of abusive behavior, and Graziano Di Prima was dismissed due to claims he verbally and physically abused Zara McDermott during practice sessions.
Bookmakers have now disclosed updated odds about the cancellation of the show, implying that the future of the show depends on this season’s performance.
This year, as the new series is about to premiere, marking the 20th anniversary of the show, the current professionals have shared their thoughts on what they believe the program might look like 20 years from now.
This season, Aljaž Škorjanec, who’s back after a two-year absence, envisions significant changes for the program, suggesting that advancements in technology could revolutionize its format.
He shared: ‘I can’t wait for the show to start using things like holograms and AI. It’ll be tricky to know what’s real and what’s not, but that might be the next technical step.’
Yet he warned against making too many changes, adding: ‘I think what makes Strictly so successful is that it’s stuck to its original format watching dances that people love and then learn to love themselves.
As someone who’s deeply invested in Strictly Come Dancing, I must admit that many of us viewers might not have firsthand experience in a dance class or studio. Yet, the passion and rhythm that unfold on screen seem to strike a chord within us all, creating an exhilarating sense of connection and shared excitement that mirrors the real-life dance studio experience.
“People grow more interested every year, so consider maintaining the current structure but boosting the content for an enhanced production.
Amy Dowden, back after overcoming breast cancer last year, expressed: “It’s thrilling to observe how much it has transformed! The costumes, stage design, dances, performers, music, and the show itself are continually evolving with the inclusion of couple’s choice, Argentine Tango, and Charleston.
I believe the essence of Ballroom dancing will remain a key feature in this program, which is one of its charming characteristics that has made it legendary. Yet, it’s also set to evolve further. I have no doubt it will continue to be the nation’s favorite show.
Carlos Gu dismissed speculations about the series getting cancelled, expressing his belief that it would continue running for as long as feasible: “I truly believe the program has a lot more life in it.
Year after year, we introduce an array of novel, vibrant personalities as celebrities, ensuring that viewers constantly enjoy fresh experiences. This dynamic quality keeps the show from feeling predictable or repetitive, giving the impression that each episode is unique and uncharted territory.
‘Every year is a new experience for us Professional Dancers as well as for the celebrities.’
As a devoted admirer, I wholeheartedly concur with Dianne Buswell’s sentiment. I truly believe that this show remains unparalleled and will maintain its status as the finest program on television for years to come.
In twenty years, I hope people will reflect on the work I’ve accomplished with my team and find it impressive. I aspire for them to remember those times with warmth, much like how we cherish the first season of ‘Strictly’ today.
When asked about the future, Gorka Marquez expressed uncertainty but added: “To be honest, I can’t say for sure, but I certainly hope that I’ll still be around in 20 years from now. At that time, I would be 53, yet ideally, I’d still be here.
Johannes Radebe predicted things will only get better, saying: ‘The show has evolved so much since it started. But now, every year, the show keeps topping itself. How we do that, I don’t know.
Every time a series concludes, I find myself reflecting, ‘This is the finest yet!’ But then another year passes, and I’m convinced, ‘No, this new one surpasses all others.’ So, after twenty years, who can say for sure?
Jowita Przystal argued that since the format of the show remains consistent, making significant changes is challenging. In other words, she didn’t believe it was possible for the show to continually improve every year due to its reliance on the same basic principles of ballroom dance.
‘We can’t change the rules; we can’t change the steps. But if you watch Strictly, year by year, it’s just getting better and better.’
Karen Haeur expressed a contrasting perspective, noting that ‘Over the last several years, the program has been changing. We have new dancers and choreographers each time. The audience has grown accustomed to what we provide.’
One way to rephrase the given sentence in a natural and easy-to-read manner could be: “What makes Strictly special is its ability to maintain its charm. It doesn’t undergo significant changes, which many people appreciate. It feels like the comforting blanket you had as a child, something that will continue to remain unchanged.
‘Strictly is the core that consistently draws viewers back to television. It’s comforting, and I believe this is a quality that will endure. It will continually provide joy and introduce fresh, innovative concepts, yet it will remain fundamentally the same.’
‘There’s an age-old custom that has never faded away, and I believe it will continue to thrive. Granted, everything else evolves with the times, but I don’t feel the need for this tradition to change much since it already presents a stunning spectacle.’
Kai Widdrington stated that it seems likely the event will be larger and improved, perhaps adorned with even more sparkle, and bursting with peculiar and fascinating items.
Katya Jones expressed: “I think we’ll see even more sparkle, elegance, and amazing dance moves.
‘We’re going to keep bringing entertainment to the nation and give everybody an opportunity to gather around the TV in their living rooms, all of the generations together, because that’s what would do best.’
Lauren Oakley admired the conventional structure of Strictly, stating: ‘What’s wonderful about Strictly is its predictability. It stays consistent, and that’s reassuring. Every Saturday evening, you know what to expect, yet it keeps growing more impressive with each passing year.’
What captivates people is seeing individuals discover a deep passion for dance and witnessing how it changes their lives. And I hope this essence – the joy of discovery and transformation through dance – remains unchanged, even as we move forward 20 years, enriched by fresh music and evolving styles.
Luba Mushtuk implied that we can expect an increase in dazzling elements, a heightened level of glamour, and more outstanding individuals joining the program.
Michelle Tsiakkas pondered: “The show is giving me a lot of optimism since, truthfully, I think it’s continually improving and growing more impressive with each passing episode.
Year after year, we consistently surpass our achievements from the preceding year, a feat undeniably attributable to our exceptional team. This includes our talented choreographers, the unsung heroes working off-stage, camera operators, costume designers, and of course, our gifted dancers – everyone who contributes significantly to our success.
It seems to me that everyone involved is performing exceptionally well, resulting in a truly outstanding production. Consequently, I have no doubt that the show will continue to improve and excel each passing year.
Nadiya Bychkova expressed her hope that her seven-year-old child, Mila, might continue on the path she has set, around twenty years from now.
She shared: ‘I think the show is just growing in so many ways. With the way our lives and industry are developing, it’s more accessible to more people. We can probably reach an even bigger audience because of social media.
It seems that everyone is focusing on personal growth, and efforts are being made to ensure the overall quality and inclusivity of the project. Consequently, I believe it will continue to thrive and expand.
It’s quite possible that in twenty years, my daughter might dance alongside a celebrity on the show! Perhaps the torch will be passed to the next generation.
Nancy Xu foresaw significant transformation, stating that “it could potentially veer away from our current path. Currently, the show focuses on Latin and Ballroom dance styles.
Over the past six years, I’ve witnessed significant progress in various areas such as videos, choreography, and fashion. It seems that each aspect has advanced to new heights and ventured into distinct paths.
‘Who knows what the future holds, but I’m very excited.’
Neil Jones expressed lofty aspirations, stating: “I truly believe it will persist. It will continue to expand and evolve.
20 years from now, it’s hard for me to visualize continuing to dance on the show, despite how much I yearn for it. My concern is whether my body would be able to withstand such physical demands. At age 62, anything can happen!
‘Maybe I’ll be a judge by then….’
As a devoted fan, I ponder over the wish that it never loses its heartfelt spirit and remains faithful to what it symbolizes for viewers. This show embodies happiness, it’s like a cherished family member. It truly belongs to the people.
As a devoted admirer, I liken Strictly to a cozy blanket or a reassuring embrace – a source of comfort and warmth. My heartfelt wish is that it continues to provide such solace for all. It seems to me our role is to divert, entertain, or uplift, and I fervently hope this feeling persists for another twenty years.
Vito Coppola did not provide an answer to the question.
The remarks come as Betfred released fresh odds on the show’s future.
According to the analysis, there’s approximately a one-third chance that Strictly could be permanently cancelled this year. However, there’s about a 55.6% possibility that the show will be put on hold next year instead.
Speaking on behalf of Betfred, Showbiz Specialist Kayley Cornelius said: ‘This year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing will be crucial in determining the show’s future.
Following a year filled with continuous controversies, it’s clear that the BBC is under immense stress to make sure operations run flawlessly, as another major setback could potentially end the series.
Although the chances of 4/2 imply that Strictly may not be completely canceled, the likelihood of the show going on hiatus next year is stronger at 4/5.
‘These odds could shorten in the coming weeks as more details emerge regarding the investigation into former pro-dancer Giovanni Pernice’s case.’
Strictly’s launch show airs Saturday 14 September at 7.20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
