Strictly pro Janette Manrara breaks her silence after Paralympian Will Bayley claimed she made him redo a jump that caused a lifelong injury – amid latest drama for ‘fatally tarnished’ show

Janette Manara has responded following allegations by Paralympian Will Bayley that she made him repeat a jump, resulting in a long-term injury; this comes as the latest controversy for the beleaguered competition.

The BBC representative for the It Takes Two show noted that there have been no reported grievances about the way the pro dancer conducts her training sessions.

Will, a table tennis player aged 36, asserted that he suffered an enduring injury from a jump during a show appearance, and accused his former partner Janette of being responsible.

The BBC was informed by a spokesperson for Janette: “Janette enjoyed herself immensely while dancing with Will. One of her most cherished experiences on the program was performing their contemporary routine as a pair.”

During her tenure on Strictly, she placed great importance on ensuring the well-being and pleasure of her famous companion.

Janette hasn’t received any criticisms from any of her past relationships and has managed to keep the friendships, including the one with Will, intact.

From birth, Arthrogryposis – a condition that restricts the mobility of Will’s joints – has been a part of his life. Over the weekend, he shared openly about the chronic pain he endures on a daily basis.

During last year’s live shows, a previously unearthed video clip revealed the heart-wrenching scene of me writhing in agony on the floor after taking a painful fall.

In the video, Tess spoke about how Will was hurt and unable to dance that week, just as footage showed him lying in pain on the ground with a medical professional attending to him.

Janette appeared troubled and emotional as she supported her famous dance companion in the footage. Later on in the video, Janette received compassionate words from dancing pro Nancy Xu when she needed comfort herself.

“As I hopped down from the table, I touched the ground with my legs fully extended,” is a possible paraphrase of Will’s statement.

I initially believed I had broken my leg due to the intense pain, which was unlike anything I had experienced before. However, I later discovered that it wasn’t as bad as I had feared when I first injured it.

It’s disappointing beyond belief when I have to admit “I just can’t dance at all” right now. But I must take time to heal and regroup, and return with renewed energy and improved skills the following week.

A week-long break was granted to Will due to his injury, which necessitated his withdrawal from the competition after missing yet another live performance.

After crashing to the ground and feeling intense agony, the gold medalist confessed that he believed his entire career had come to an end.

Earlier on Monday, the BBC broke their silence after Paralympian Will‘s claims over the weekend.

Will was left with excruciating knee pain after competing on the series. 

The BBC stated that we have established procedures for handling injuries, ensuring that contestants receive proper care and attention when needed.

In an interview with The Sun, Will explained, “We rehearsed a couple of times, and I took great precautions. But after hearing Janette’s criticism that my leap wasn’t up to par, I decided to put on a bigger smile, let go of my inhibitions, and infuse the performance with some enthusiasm.”

Determined to improve, the sportsman ‘went for it’ but experienced ‘the most horrific pain.’

He narrated how he lay helplessly on the floor, believing his professional journey had ended. Suddenly, he felt and heard his leg snap, making it impossible for him to draw a breath.

“That injury will always be a challenge for me, as it’s permanent and adds to my existing disability. Every day begins with pain, limiting my training sessions to just a few hours.”

I, being an avid fan of Will’s, can tell you that he didn’t hold a grudge against Janette personally. However, he believed that she was unduly influenced by the show’s producers and felt the weight of their expectations heavily upon her shoulders during their time on the series. Yet, despite these pressures, our beloved Will and Janette have managed to maintain a strong friendship.

A BBC representative responded: “We won’t be discussing individuals or responding to rumors. But, as we’ve mentioned before, we’re open to hearing concerns if they’re brought to our attention directly and we have established channels for handling such matters.”

During his injury, Will commended Janette for being steadfast and supportive, providing strength as his remarkable dance journey concluded, causing her to weep.

He recounted the sound of his knee cracking and assumed he had shattered his leg, but it was only after being examined by a doctor that he learned he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament instead.

At the show, Will expressed his disappointment but also excitement, sharing, “I’m really bummed, yet thrilled to be present and cheer on everyone. They’re all killing it tonight.”

In my experience, I’ve received an incredible amount of assistance during this journey. The least I can do in return is be present again, and I take great pride in observing your progress.

I’m eagerly anticipating the progress and can’t wait to experience it in a few weeks. I’ll be present in Tokyo, striving to clinch that elusive gold medal once more.

In 2021, the rescheduled Tokyo Games took place, and after having healed from his previous wound, Will earned an individual silver medal as well as a team silver medal in those competitions.
