Strictly fans RAGING over scores once again as they claim judges are ‘over marking’ one of the couples
As a long-time fan of Strictly Come Dancing, I must say I find myself quite perplexed by the recent turn of events. Coming from the era of Len Goodman and his fair judgement, it seems that this year’s head judge, Shirley Ballas, has stirred up quite a storm.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I found myself among the many Strictly Come Dancing viewers expressing disbelief and frustration last Saturday night. The scores, it seemed, were not adding up as we felt the competition judges appeared to be overly generous in their marking towards one of the final eight couples. It’s all part of the fun, isn’t it? The debate over who truly deserves the top score!
As a devoted admirer, I had the delight of witnessing Tasha Ghouri, a captivating figure from Love Island, and her partner Aljaž Škorjanec grace the renowned dance floor with their Quickstep performance during the most recent episode.
And her glitzy performance left judges Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke in awe as they gave her a joint score of 37.
Motsi and Shirley awarded the performer a flawless 10, whereas Craig Revel Horwood, another judge, appeared somewhat unimpressed and gave the pair an 8 instead.
However, BBC spectators expressed dissent, labeling the performance as lackluster and criticizing the house band for mishandling Mariah Carey’s popular hit “Sweet Fantasy.
Speaking about the individual once known as Twitter user X, they expressed: ‘I don’t think Tasha and Aljaz deserved perfect scores. I apologize.’
‘I liked Tasha’s dance but I don’t think it was 10 worthy.
‘Tasha and Aljaz was Overmarked. I agreed with Craig on this one.’
In a typical manner, Tasha performed well, yet it leaves me feeling rather uninterested, as I haven’t seen any significant growth in her performances. It seems to me that the judges appear to be showing undue favoritism towards her.
‘Shirley going in on that when Tasha was bland as anything and she gave a 10.’
Craig seemed to align with the public sentiment when he stated, “To be truthful, I found it quite safe,” while the crowd jeered.
‘I felt that it was just missing something tonight. Sorry about that.’
A new round of criticism arose following Shirley’s response to the fans who were upset by the elimination of Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin from the contest the previous week.
The senior judge, aged 64, reacted strongly when admitting that she found it immature to attribute the result to the judges themselves.
Earlier this month, Shirley faced criticism from fans of the BBC show, who thought that Sam had been given a lower score than deserved by the judges.
However, she’s countered by asserting that the public’s vote plays a significant role in determining who faces off on dance nights each Sunday.
The judge said: ‘The show’s been on over 20 years. The public vote makes a difference.’
‘You the public can vote to save your favourites. It gets childish to blame the judges.’
Responding to allegations of biased grading against female celebrities, Shirley stated, ‘I don’t have a malicious bone in my body.’
Last Saturday, Sam and Nikita received a score of 29 for their American Smooth dance routine, placing them at the lowest position on the leaderboard.
Subsequently, they faced off in an unexpected dance competition against Montell Douglas and Johannas Radebe following a public vote. However, it was the judges who ultimately decided their elimination.
But the scoring of the couple left fans outraged as they claimed they were unfairly scored.
Speaking about X, previously recognized as Twitter, one wrote: “What’s going on with Wynne and Pete so close by?!” or simply “With Wynne and Pete nearby, what’s happening down here?
‘If we don’t see Wynne or Pete in the dance off next week i am gunna kick off.’
‘I need Pete to be the dance off next week. We’re losing decent dancers and he’s just not there.’
‘#strictly pete shayne and wynne were the weakest!’
Pete ought to have left this week, his performance was terrible. Yes, I’ve seen the advance notice and I’m quite upset about it. That other duo shouldn’t have even come close to the elimination round.
It wasn’t fair for Sam not to be allowed to stay; Pete should have gone instead. Shirley didn’t make a fair assessment throughout the series. She should be fired. Her biased choices have spoiled this show. Len, on the other hand, never favored anyone like she did.
Sam and Montel shouldn’t have missed the dance-off. Some average dancers should have taken their place instead, making it less fair for them. It’s disappointing since they embody the essence of Strictly Come Dancing. I enjoyed watching them improve throughout.
