Strictly couple Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell reveal they’ve chosen “unique” name for their baby boy

Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell, who met on Strictly Come Dancing, have revealed the name they’ve chosen for their baby son, describing it as ‘unique.’ The couple announced they were expecting their first child last month and have been playfully hinting at the name they had in mind.

Although the couple hasn’t officially announced their decision, they recently shared their thought process in a YouTube video.

When asked about the mystery name, Joe explained they couldn’t offer many hints. He mentioned the name doesn’t seem to be common, though he knows a few people with it as a last name, and it could also be a shortened version of a longer name.

“It’s a really unusual name,” he said, responding to Dianne’s joke that it wasn’t a typical fruit like Apple or Pear. Joe added that it’s a name that ages well – it will still look good as you get older.

Dianne chimed in, “It reminds me of Joe, doesn’t it? Adorable as a child, but you’d probably go by Joseph when you’re grown up.”

Joe then playfully suggested the name could suit an athlete, and shared that Dianne is already using it for their baby on the way.

I’ve been deliberately avoiding saying the name, but Diane keeps using it. I’m concerned that before the baby arrives – something we’re also keeping private – we might accidentally let it slip.

“From now on, he’s called Derek,” he then quipped.

This follows Dianne’s recent response to harsh criticism about her dancing on the show while pregnant.

The dancer expressed disbelief that, even in 2025, people were still making such comments. She shared this reaction on her Instagram Stories, alongside a supportive message she’d received from a fan.

I was teamed up with Stefan Dennis this season, but unfortunately, we had to pull out of the competition. He injured his leg, which was a real bummer, so we couldn’t keep going.

You can watch Strictly Come Dancing on Saturdays on BBC One, and the companion show, Strictly: It Takes Two, airs weeknights on BBC Two. Both programs are also available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
