Strictly Come Dancing’s Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał look tense during ten hour rehearsal session ahead of live show
As I delve into this heartfelt narrative about Pete Wicks and his beloved grandmother Doreen, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of empathy for the man who has bared his soul on the pages of his memoir. Losing a loved one, especially someone as significant as a grandmother, can leave an indelible mark on one’s life, and it seems that Doreen played a crucial role in shaping Pete’s character and outlook on relationships.
Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał appeared somewhat anxious as they practiced their dance moves in preparation for the weekend’s live performance on Strictly Come Dancing.
On Wednesday, I was seen at a dance studio in North London, putting in a solid ten-hour practice session alongside my partner.
Pete, aged 36, and Jowita, 30 years old, are preparing to dance a Quickstep to the song “A Town Called Malice” by The Jam. Notably, Pete shared on Instagram that this has been the most challenging week for him.
The duo reviewed their regular process, frequently conversing about the moves, and repeatedly practicing the dance.
Pete opted for a practical look, donning a black sleeveless shirt, while keeping his long tresses tied back, ensuring they wouldn’t interfere as he commenced his day’s work.
Pete has revealed he hopes to do a tribute to his late nan Doreen during his time on Strictly.
Previously known TOWIE personality mourned the loss of his cherished grandmother in 2022, convinced that she would have delighted in witnessing him dance on the BBC’s Latin and ballroom competition.
In Harlow, Pete grew up under the care of his grandmother Doreen, who stepped in when his parents parted ways. She played an essential role as Pete’s mother grappled with mental health issues throughout his childhood.
In conversation about her involvement in the show, he stated on the High Performance Podcast (released on Wednesday): “She would have found it delightful.
‘I don’t think she ever imagined that I’d be doing ballroom dancing on a Saturday night.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I eagerly anticipate the moment when I might have the privilege of performing a unique song that holds immense personal significance for me. This tune will serve as a heartfelt homage if my tenure lasts long enough.
Last week, Pete and his professional partner Jowita danced the Samba to George Of The Jungle and scored 26 points.
He added: ‘She had the best sense of humour, so she’d have found it hilarious watching me strut around like a t*t.’
Pete confessed that the passing of his grandmother deeply affected him, causing him to ponder over his playboy ways (Lothario lifestyle) and understand why he finds it difficult to make long-term commitments in relationships.
He shared: “I recently lost my grandmother, which prompted me to look back on events and contemplate them in order to understand better why I am as I am today.
Previously, Pete referred to Doreen as his “closest confidante” and mentioned that she provided him with “unwavering strength” during his challenging adolescence.
In the process of penning down his memoirs, he mentioned: ‘On the very day she passed away, I was in London visiting friends. Suddenly, my mother phoned me urgently asking me to rush to the hospital immediately.’
In a reminiscent manner, I recall that Mom and I sat on opposite sides with our hands clasped together. The final words she spoke to me still resonate vividly: “You are my other half.
Strictly continues on Saturday on BBC One at 6.20pm.
