Strictly Come Dancing stars taking on two dances for the semi-final – here’s what they are

With only about two weeks left until the winner of Strictly Come Dancing is crowned, the remaining couples are determined to stay in the competition. This weekend, as the semi-finals approach, they’ll need to rehearse even more.

As the 23rd season of the popular BBC show comes to a close, only four celebrities remain. They’ll each perform two dances, hoping to win over both the judges and the viewers at home.

Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon will kick off the performances with a Waltz set to Michael Bublé’s ‘At This Moment’. They’ll follow that with a lively Salsa, dancing to a mix of Gloria Estefan’s ‘Rhythm is Gonna Get You’ and ‘Get on Your Feet’.

Karen Carney and Carlos Gu will perform a Salsa to Vicki Sue Robinson’s ‘Turn the Beat Around,’ and then switch to a Waltz set to Whitney Houston’s ‘One Moment in Time’.

George Clarke and Alexis Warr started with a Charleston dance set to Yolanda Be Cool’s ‘We No Speak Americano,’ followed by a challenging Samba performed to ‘Volare’ by Gipsy Kings.

Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin, who avoided elimination last week, will be dancing a Couple’s Choice routine to Raye’s version of ‘Fly Me to the Moon’. They’ll also perform a Tango to Michael Bublé’s ‘Higher’, just like Balvinder and Julian.

Everyone’s excited about the semi-finals, but some fans online were disappointed that Balvinder and Karen received the same dance assignments. Many felt the show lacked originality with this pairing.

Okay, so I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a bunch of people pointing out something kinda weird with the latest dance routines. Apparently, Karen and Balvinder got assigned the same dances, and everyone agrees it was a totally unnecessary mistake. One person put it perfectly: it was just… interesting. Another fan was more direct, saying it was just bad choreography that could have easily been avoided.

These latest events follow closely after Lewis Cope and Katya Jones were unexpectedly eliminated from the competition. They lost to Amber and Nikita in a dance-off on Sunday, despite being among the highest-scoring couples throughout the season.

After leaving, Lewis shared that the experience was unforgettable and something he’d cherish forever. He specifically thanked Katya, saying she’d been an amazing friend and teacher, giving him everything he could have asked for.

You can watch Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One on Saturdays, and the companion show, Strictly: It Takes Two, airs weeknights on BBC Two. Both programs are also available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
