Strictly Come Dancing scoops major prize at National Television Awards despite its year of scandal
As a lifestyle expert with over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, I must say that last night’s National Television Awards was a rollercoaster ride filled with drama, excitement, and some unexpected twists. The fact that Strictly Come Dancing managed to scoop the Talent Show award despite the controversy surrounding it is a testament to the show’s enduring popularity among viewers.
Despite a year plagued with scandals and controversy, Strictly Come Dancing scooped the prize for Talent Show at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night.
Despite concerns about the future of the program due to allegations of abuse against dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima, BBC’s show managed to outshine Britain’s Got Talent, The Great British Bake Off, Masterchef, and The Voice by winning one of the evening’s major awards.
The National Television Awards (NTAs) are determined by the public’s votes, and the victory of Strictly Come Dancing indicates that viewers continue to support the program as it gears up for its 20th season this coming Saturday evening.
On Wednesday, at London’s O2 Arena, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman were accompanied by the program’s professional dancers and creative staff when they received an award on stage.
The presenting duo singled out the show’s ‘wonderful’ crew as they gushed that the win ‘meant everything.’
The win comes amid claims that BBC bosses are full of ‘panic and worry’ regarding the publication of a report into Amanda Abbington and her former Strictly dance partner Giovanni Pernice.
The actress has accused the dancer of bullying, which he denies. But the Mail can reveal that there are concerns at the Corporation about how the two parties will react when the results of the investigation are revealed.
Top management has held crucial discussions on presenting their results, as they are mindful of the potential for a legal dispute from either Ms. Abbington, aged 52, or Mr. Pernice, should they be dissatisfied with the decision made.
One source told the Mail: ‘This is an absolute mess and the BBC don’t know what to do for the best.
As a devoted follower, I find myself closely watching every statement made with great care, as any misstep might spark widespread concern about the future of the BBC. The words chosen are meticulously weighed to avoid fueling dissent or criticism.
I’m finding myself at a loss, as I can’t seem to figure out the right course of action, leading to repeated delays. However, I must admit that I hold Director-General Tim Davie in high regard; yet, the complexity of the situation seems insurmountable for me to navigate effectively.
At Wednesday’s NTAs, Claudia was not awarded the Best TV Presenter award – instead, it went to Ant and Dec.
For an impressive 23rd time, Ant and Dec received the Best Presenter accolade while heading the major victors.
Previously, they had been bestowed with a prestigious award, finding themselves among other illustrious victors that evening, which included Mr. Bates vs The Post Office, The Chase, and Strictly Come Dancing.
In the course of their talk, Ant and Dec shared some perspectives on how their lives have evolved significantly in recent times, particularly after taking on the role of parents.
In the month of April, Ant became a father for the first time along with his spouse Anne-Marie, as they welcomed their baby boy whom they named Wilder. Meanwhile, Dec already has a daughter named Isla, who is six years old, and a son Jack, aged two, with his wife Ali.
Over the past six years since we welcomed our little ones into our family, our lives have undergone an incredibly transformative journey.
“Now we’re returning to diaper changes and school drop-offs. My little girl Isla wished me luck, saying ‘I hope you win the trophy,’ and offered her lip balm, implying it might bring me good fortune, before she held it up for me.
During their remarkable run of victories, Ant and Dec stood out, but on this particular occasion, the spotlight shifted to Mr. Bates as he took home an impressive three awards that evening.
Toby Jones received the award for Best Actor in a Series Drama, thanks to his highly praised performance.
In his speech, the actor extended his heartfelt congratulations to Sir Alan Bates, the dedicated Post Office campaigner, who recently got married to his long-term partner Susanne, over the weekend on Richard Branson’s personal island.
He added: ‘This is an extraordinary project, brilliantly commissioned, directed with flare, and the best actors I could possibly hope to work with. I’m really honoured.’
The case between Mr. Bates and The Post Office once again brought focus to the subpostmasters unjustly accused during the Horizon IT scandal, which was later acknowledged by the presentation of the Impact Award during the ceremony.
During her speech on stage, Sub-postmaster Jo Hamilton criticized the government’s handling of the recent scandal.
She said that despite the appointment of a new Labour government, ‘nothing has changed,’ and sub-postmasters are yet to receive compensation.
