I have been following the recent developments regarding the allegations of misconduct during the training process of Strictly Come Dancing with great concern. As someone who has had the privilege of watching the show and admiring the incredible talent and hard work that goes into it, I was deeply distressed to learn about the experiences of some professionals involved in the training.

According to reports, Anton Du Beke from Strictly Come Dancing has expressed worries over an old controversy and allegations of outdated conduct from the 1970s.

During the 2009 competition, the judge, who was 57 years old at the time, made Laila Rouass cry by teasingly commenting that she resembled a certain derogatory term after her spray tan application.

A few weeks after making insensitive remarks to the actress, who has Indian and Moroccan heritage, he expressed regret and acknowledged feeling “foolish” and “ashamed.” The pair eventually reconciled.

I was deeply disappointed to learn about the alleged incident involving professional dancer Graziano Di Prima and his celebrity partner Zara McDermott during rehearsals for their dance show. As a former competitive dancer myself, I understand that the pressure and stress of performing can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or even physical altercations between partners. However, as adults and public figures, it is our responsibility to conduct ourselves with respect and professionalism at all times.

After the investigation into allegations of off-camera misconduct made by Amanda Abbinson, 50, and two other ex-partners against Giovanni Pernice, 33, began at the BBC, he was temporarily suspended from the show.

Anton caused a commotion when people learned he referred to Laila as a derogatory term for a person of darker skin tone during rehearsals, while she was wearing fake tan.

A source told The Sun: ‘Anton has a very 1970s attitude and can be abrasive.

As the distinction between acceptable and unacceptable actions grows less clear-cut, it’s important to note that some individuals have found him amicable to collaborate with.

I used to dance, but some people grumbled and expressed dissatisfaction with my performances. Still, the BBC chose to promote me, which seems unusual to me.

TopMob has contacted Anton Du Beke’s representative and the BBC for comment.

Back in 2009, when the controversy surrounding Anton’s comment erupted, it came to light that he had made a joking remark to Laila, implying she might be a terrorist due to her North African background.

After the revelation on It Takes Two, Laila expressed: “We’re making it through this ordeal as a team. This past week has been challenging for us both… Yet, we’re determined to look forward.”

‘This happened weeks ago and we’ve been getting on very well.’

Anton expressed again his regret and apologized to Laila, the entire show team, and their viewers for his actions last weekend. He feels ashamed and foolish.

Instead, he added, “It was foolish of me to act and speak that way, and unfortunately, it’s drawn attention away from the fantastic show we’ve put together.”

‘As I say I am mortified about it, completely, and Laila has been quite remarkably wonderful.’

Bruce Forsyth had to issue an official apology from the BBC, as he previously suggested that people should lighten up regarding the contentious matter.

In an interview with TalkSport radio, he shared: “Looking back, we found humor in this situation. Go back 25 to 40 years, and you’ll find that there was always some lightheartedness surrounding it.”

Once upon time, the Americans referred to us as “limeys,” a term that might not have had a pleasant ring to it. However, we found humor in this moniker and took it in stride. After all, everyone has their own special name or pet term.

But hours later a statement from Bruce was issued by the BBC.

“Anton made a mistake in what he told Laila, for which he has issued a heartfelt apology. I don’t support or approve of such language being used.”

In plain terms, using language that is offensive based on race is neither humorous nor appropriate under any circumstances.

Although there’s a significant distinction between this and hateful remarks intended to harm, let’s remember to maintain balance despite the heightened sensitivity towards politically correct language in today’s world.

The statement added ‘these are my personal views and not necessarily those of the BBC’.

I’ve been strongly supporting my friend Giovanni throughout last month, as he went through a challenging time following his departure from Strictly Come Dancing amidst the BBC’s investigation into serious misconduct allegations.

I can’t contain my excitement as I share this news with you all! Starting in June and running through July, the dynamic duo, Giovanni and Anton, will be gracing our presence in a live show tour called “Giovanni and Anton Together: The Live Experience”! Prepare yourselves for an unforgettable journey as we witness their magic on stage. Can’t wait to be part of this incredible adventure with them!

On Instagram Stories, Giovanni shared a video featuring the two friends. In the attached promotional image, they can be seen embracing each other, illustrating their strong bond.

Anton began by expressing his joy for the first day of rehearsals, but found the second day less appealing. This elicited a laugh from Giovanni.

Giving a cheerful expression and seeming upbeat, Giovanni went on saying, “We need to recall all details from our first day. Feels great to be back on the road again.”

On Tuesday, it came to light that a third professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing is under investigation for claims of abuse and bullying, casting a shadow over the popular program.

I’ve learned from The Sun that yet another professional dancer, who has since left the show, is under investigation in relation to the ongoing probe concerning the BBC series.

A source told the publication: ‘A professional’s name has come up, alongside Giovanni and Graziano.

I’m sad to report that the individual you’re referring to is no longer involved in the production, but his role has become significant in an ongoing investigation. Further conversations are needed with other individuals to gather more information.

A dossier is being prepared for the BBC, which they will receive. It seems that the questionable behavior of certain trainers may be more prevalent than previously thought.

‘And the more people who come forward, the clearer the picture is becoming.’

The BBC has been contacted by TopMob for comment.

On Taylor (day) night, the organizers of Strictly revealed their intention to hire chaperones for the training sessions and appointed two new welfare producers, following the unexpected termination of Graziano from the program.

Based on my experience working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, I believe the announcement made by management about implementing “further measures to enhance welfare and assistance on Strictly Come Dancing” is a positive step forward. As someone who has witnessed firsthand the demanding nature of live productions and the pressure that contestants face, any initiative that prioritizes their wellbeing is commendable. It shows a commitment from the production team to create a supportive environment where dancers can thrive both personally and professionally.

The corporation acknowledged concerns raised recently, mainly relating to training and preparedness. Our new actions aim to resolve these issues.

A production team representative will attend all training sessions in the rehearsal room, and there will be additional assistance given to both famous contestants and skilled dancers.

Two new roles will be created: a Celebrity Well-being Coordinator and a Professional Dancer Well-being Supervisor, who will take on additional responsibilities. Additionally, the production team and crew will undergo further education to enhance their skills.

Kate Phillips, the head of BBC’s Unscripted division, stated: “We understand that our shows have been enjoyable for most participants. However, if concerns are brought to our attention or if we learn about unacceptable conduct, we will not disregard them. Instead, we will investigate and take appropriate action.”

As a lifestyle expert, I understand that there have been concerns raised recently regarding the preparation process for this production. To address these issues head-on, I’m pleased to announce some significant steps we are taking to enhance the overall wellbeing and support system for everyone involved. By focusing on improved training and rehearsal methods, we aim to create a more sustainable and fulfilling experience for all.

Within hours, Zara, a previous contestant on Love Island, spoke out for the first time about the controversy.

On Tuesday morning, she posted on Instagram that being part of Strictly was a dream come true for her most of the time. However, she experienced some troubling instances within the training room with Graziano that left her feeling very upset.

Zara expressed her belief that she should share her thoughts about the latest news, saying, “I felt compelled to comment on the recent media coverage.” She went on, “Strictly is a truly enchanting television program for me. It’s been a dream of mine since childhood to be part of it.”

Receiving an invitation to join the show as a contestant brought back memories of my cherished childhood dreams. I acknowledged the significant time and effort required by Strictly and devoted myself wholeheartedly to its pursuit.

‘I am a resilient person and I was fully prepared to put in whatever it took.’

In every way, my time on Strictly exceeded my wildest expectations. The entire production crew, along with those working behind the scenes, were an absolute pleasure to work alongside. My fellow contestants were equally wonderful.

Despite my expectations, my time in the training room proved to be quite contrary. There have been allegations concerning my conduct during filming, with credible accounts from bystanders and disturbing footage of certain occurrences.

Zara explained that she didn’t report the incidents at the time as she was ‘scared’ of backlash.

During the probe into professional dancer Giovanni, it was the junior production team members who stepped forward to disclose what they had observed.

“I’ve struggled with the apprehension of sharing openly – I was anxious about possible criticism from the public, I was worried about my own future, and I feared being blamed as a victim,” Zara posted on Instagram.

After many heartfelt discussions with dear ones, I’ve found newfound courage to tackle my apprehensions. When invited by the BBC to share my experiences on their program, I spoke openly and honestly.

In today’s world, where social media voices are abundant, it can be challenging for individuals in our society to express their opinions openly, even though the culture may hinder open communication. I’ve observed this issue frequently while collaborating with numerous women during the production of my documentaries.

“I’m deeply grateful to the BBC and BBC Studios for their quick response and exceptional assistance. A big thank you also goes out to those who have contacted me; your kindness is greatly appreciated. Warm regards, Zara.”
