The Esports World Cup has received one of its major updates: Street Fighter 6 will join the tournament series this year. Today, it was officially announced that Street Fighter 6 will be part of the Esports World Cup until 2027, with possibilities of an extension for future years.

Apart from showcasing top-tier Street Fighter players globally, this event boasts a colossal prize fund as well.

The upcoming Esports World Cup tournament boasts a total prize money of $1 million and is slated as one of its final events, happening in July and August this year.

Schedule and format

As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to share with fellow enthusiasts the official schedule and format for the Street Fighter 6 Esports World Cup Tournament Series in 2025:

1. Qualifiers: Throughout the year, regional qualifiers will be held across the globe, giving players an opportunity to showcase their skills and earn a spot in the main event.

2. Group Stages: The top competitors from each region will then advance to the group stages, where they’ll compete against one another in a round-robin format to determine seeding for the playoffs.

3. Playoffs: The best 16 players from each bracket will move on to the single-elimination playoffs, with matches progressively becoming more intense and challenging as the tournament unfolds.

4. Semi-Finals: In this stage, four finalists will emerge, battling for a spot in the ultimate showdown against one another.

5. Grand Final: The two remaining competitors will face off in an epic best-of-five series to determine who will be crowned the Street Fighter 6 World Champion and take home the coveted trophy!

Phase 1 (AUGUST 20-21):

  • 48 Players split into 12 GSL groups of four players.
    • 1 Player from each group advances to Phase 3.
    • 1 Player from each group advances to Phase 2.
  • All matches in this Phase are best-of-five.

Phase 2 (AUGUST 22):

  • 12 Players split into four Round Robin groups of three players.
  • One Player from each group advances to Phase 3.
    • Tiebreakers:
      • If the first-place player is tied with another player, the entire group is played again.
      • If still tied, tiebreakers will be used (Match, game or round difference).
  • All matches in this Phase are best-of-five.

Phase 3 (AUGUST 23):

  • 16 remaining players are seeded into a single-elimination bracket (with a third-place match).
    • 12 players from Phase 1.
    • 4 players from Phase 2.
  • All matches in this phase are best-of-nine.
