Streamer banned on Twitch due to Ubisoft’s ‘mistake’ ahead of AC Shadows release
Olivia Monroe apparently got banned on Twitch due to an oversight from Ubisoft.
As a passionate admirer, I find myself expressing the recent situation of Olivia Monroe, the popular streamer and virtual YouTuber, who has been temporarily suspended from Twitch. This supposedly stemmed from an apparent mix-up on Ubisoft’s side, as they unveil their latest creation, Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Why did Olivia Monroe get banned?
Olivia Monroe, a popular virtual YouTuber, boasts more than 45,000 followers on Twitch. On March 18, at 7AM Pacific Time, she’s set to host a collaborative stream, marking the launch of AC Shadows.
In under an hour after starting the game sponsored by Ubisoft, she received a ban on the live-streaming site. It’s rumored that Ubisoft may be responsible for the ban, as it seems there was an error on their part.
Apparently, her requested stream time was approved by Ubisoft because they misread “7AM” as “7PM.”
Of course, this action sparked anger from other broadcasters on the platform. It seemed unfair that she faced the consequences when Ubisoft was actually at fault for the mistake. Additionally, the ban didn’t feel fair to Olivia’s supporters, as it was justified under the circumstances.
It makes sense that the game developer-publisher chose to reveal all content for the game simultaneously to the public. Yet, this incident seems to be damaging their reputation, particularly within the VTubing community. As I write, Ubisoft has yet to release a statement about the situation, which is now over 36 hours after the ban was imposed.
Fortunately for Olivia Monroe, her ban on Twitch didn’t persist for too long. Within approximately five hours of being banned, she was reinstated. Since then, she has resumed streaming, but hasn’t touched AC Shadows since the incident.
In a global launch on March 20, 2025, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows made its debut, garnering mostly positive feedback from critics. This installment marks the first time the extended series delves into Japan as its setting. The game introduces two main characters, Yasuke and Naoe, and offers various, non-compulsory romantic subplots.
