Stream these nostalgic faves while you can! Static Shock and more are leaving Max in 2025
As a child of the 90s and early 2000s, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as these beloved shows are leaving HBO Max. I remember waking up early on Saturday mornings to catch my favorite animated series like Teen Titans, Static Shock, Ed, Edd n Eddy, and more. These shows were not just cartoons, they were a big part of my childhood, shaping my love for animation and storytelling.
As a gamer, there’s nothing quite like reminiscing about the good ol’ days. One of my favorite ways to do that is by revisiting some classic animated shows that we millennials grew up with, like the epic duo of Static Shock and Teen Titans – they were the perfect Saturday morning cartoon lineup!
If you share this interest with me, it’s unfortunate to inform you that enjoying our classic animated series may soon be harder. By the end of December, HBO Max plans to eliminate numerous such shows from their platform. This means that by 2025, we might have limited or no options left for streaming these beloved animations. Here’s a list of animated shows that will be removed from the streamer.
Teen Titans leaves Max on Dec. 29
I’m still bitter that the original Teen Titans was taken off the air and instead of a revival or continuation, we got Teen Titans Go!. The former had a serious tone with intricate plots, while the latter is filled with jokes and immature humor. While I enjoy watching Teen Titans Go!, it doesn’t hold a candle to the original. The superhero genre has become more light-hearted lately, so maybe it’s time for a comeback of Teen Titans. Until then, fans can stream the animated series on Max until Dec. 29.
Static Shock leaves Max on Dec. 31
Wow! It’s quite a punch, HBO, reminding me of my nostalgic Saturdays spent with the animated series Static Shock. Before the superhero craze swept in, this show was already on the scene. Notably, it was the pioneer to have an African-American hero as the central character, setting a significant precedent in the genre.
Static Shock made its debut on September 23, 2000, as part of the Kids’ WB programming block on the WB Network. This action-comedy series tells the story of Virgil Hawkins, a teenager living in secret as the town’s superhero, Static Shock.
Ed, Edd n Eddy leaves Max on Dec. 31
It’s hard to believe! It doesn’t seem like Ed, Edd n Eddy is leaving the streaming service. Granted, I haven’t watched this cartoon since it originally aired on Cartoon Network. To be honest, it wasn’t really my cup of tea back then. And I certainly wouldn’t let my kids watch it now – times have changed. But I remember that it was a fun distraction for many, and its absence will be felt. Fans still have time until December 31 to catch up on their favorite episodes; a Ed, Edd n Eddy marathon might be in order!
It’s hard to believe, but it seems that by 2025, I won’t be able to revisit some of my favorite shows like “The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy,” “Green Lantern: The Animated Series,” “The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries,” and “Teen Titans Go!” on the streaming platform. What a bummer!
