Stream John Cena’s Wildest Action Movie Free on Tubi—You Won’t Believe How Intense It Gets
As a film enthusiast, I always eagerly anticipate the fresh lineup of movies and shows that Tubi adds each month. Unlike many other streaming services where you have to pay for the privilege of watching classics and hidden gems, Tubi offers an array of content at no cost. This month, there’s a wealth of entertainment waiting on Tubi, ranging from comedies to action flicks, and even an underappreciated 2009 movie featuring a WWE legend. The acting catalog of this legendary wrestler, John Cena, is nearly as iconic as his time in the ring. While we can’t witness him in the arena, he’s front and center when playing fictional characters, particularly the role of Danny Fisher in “12 Rounds,” which is now available on Tubi for free.
In the high-stakes action movie, character played by John Cena embarks on a 12-round personal vendetta against arms dealer Miles Jackson, portrayed by Aidan Gillen. A plan to apprehend Jackson led by the FBI goes awry when their informant betrays them. As Jackson flees with his girlfriend, Erica Kessen (Taylor Cole), Officer Danny Fisher and Hank Carver (Brian J. White) join forces with the FBI. Following an incident that results in Erica’s death, Miles is apprehended and vows revenge on Fisher. Alongside Cena, White, and Cole, 12 Rounds features Ashley Scott as Molly Porter, Vincent Flood as Detective Chuck Jansen, and Steve Harris as George Aiken.
12 Rounds, a movie directed by Renny Harlin and produced by WWE Studios, was released on March 27, 2009, in the U.S. With a budget of $6.7 million, it grossed $17.3 million at the box office, receiving mixed reviews from critics. This action film, starring John Cena, who is well-known for his wrestling career, showcases the seamless transition between the world of WWE and Hollywood. In an interview with Gaynor Flynn on Female.com.au, Cena shared his thoughts about acting compared to wrestling. According to him, both professions involve storytelling, which made him feel comfortable performing in front of the camera. He also mentioned that he performed his own stunts and discussed the reasons behind this choice.
In simpler terms, wrestling can be seen as a performance or show, similar to acting, where we narrate stories to entertain our audience. Just like an actor, I didn’t feel awkward or embarrassed while performing in front of the camera. Instead, I absorbed as much knowledge as possible during my time there, understanding that there’s still more for me to learn about filmmaking. This movie required authenticity, as the financial constraints prevented heavy reliance on computer-generated effects (CGI). Moreover, since the story revolves around an ordinary man experiencing extraordinary challenges, it was crucial that our protagonist performs all his own stunts.
The ’12 Rounds’ Sequel Stars Another WWE Superstar
Given that there’s ample opportunity for wrestling stars to venture into films, it’s no surprise that Randy Orton also joined the acting scene. In the follow-up film, titled “12 Rounds: Reloaded“, Orton portrays Nick Malloy – a paramedic who, on his way home from watching a movie with his wife, encounters a series of events that lead him to play a 12-round game orchestrated by the antagonist, Patrick Heller. The film also features Tom Stevens as Tommy Weaver, Brian Markinson as Patrick Heller, Venus Terzo as Detective McKenzie, and Cindy Busby as Sarah Malloy. Unlike its predecessor, “12 Rounds: Reloaded” was exclusively released on DVD and Blu-ray in the U.S. on June 4, 2013.
