Stream it! Michael Sheen’s chilling serial killer drama is ‘popular now’ and not to be missed

In a fascinating twist, I myself, a devoted admirer, had the pleasure of watching Michael Sheen captivate audiences in shows like “Good Omens” and “Staged.” Yet, it’s worth noting that this talented performer once portrayed an infamous serial killer, adding another layer to his already impressive acting resume.

The television series titled “Prodigal Son,” broadcast from 2019 to 2021, featured Michael Sheen in the role of Martin Whitly, a notorious serial killer, also known as the Surgeon, who has been responsible for the deaths of at least 23 individuals.

In the series “The Walking Dead,” actor Tom Payne plays the role of Malcolm Bright, a once-discredited FBI agent who now assists the New York Police Department in solving homicide cases, having been rehired as a consultant.

It turns out that Bright possesses an exceptional understanding of what drives killers, for his father, whom he deeply fears, is none other than the infamous Whitly.

Even though the show concluded in 2021, you can now watch all its episodes on Channel 5’s streaming platform, as it is currently featured among their popular programs.

The series titled “Prodigal Son” also features actors like Lou Diamond Phillips and Dermot Mulroney. For the second season, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is well known for her role in “Wednesday,” has joined the cast.

The drama originally aired on Fox in the US, with the broadcaster unexpectedly axing it in 2021.

2022 saw the show’s termination. In this conversation with Lou Diamond Phillips, it emerged that he initially believed Chris Fedak, the co-creator, was phoning to discuss the start date of season three filming.

He shared with TVLine that he understood the phone call to mean, “‘Hello, friend, we’ll be returning to work in July.’

“I had every reason, as did the cast and crew, to believe that this was going to be the case.”

Phillips went on to say he thought the show was so unique it deserved to be allowed to continue.

He said, “I’m not putting down any other shows, but a lot of what you see on TV is predictable, ordinary, and playing it safe.

I find it quite unfortunate that ‘Prodigal Son’ turned out to be so distinctive, captivating, and different. Given the outstanding cast, I can’t help but feel that perhaps there was an error in its production.

All episodes of Prodigal Son are available to stream now on 5.

The latest issue of Digital Spy’s print magazine has arrived! You can purchase the Oasis – Live in ’25’ special edition from newsstands or online for only £8.99.
