As a dedicated gamer and horror movie enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for new and chilling experiences that push the boundaries of my fear threshold. And when I heard that Finn Wolfhard, best known for his role as Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things, was starring in a modern adaptation of Henry James’ classic ghost story, The Turning, I couldn’t resist.
In the 2020 horror film “The Turning,” Finn Wolfhard, known for his role in “Stranger Things,” encounters something even more unnerving than a Demogorgon.
Tonight at 12am (midnight) on BBC One, a contemporary retelling of Henry James’ 1898 ghost story “The Turn of the Screw” will be broadcast on TV.
If you don’t catch it this time, don’t fret – you can watch it on BBC iPlayer the following day. Additionally, you have the option to purchase or rent the film immediately on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, and other digital platforms.

Kate Mandell, portrayed by Mackenzie Davis, accepts a position as a caregiver for the orphaned siblings, Miles (Wolfhard) and Flora (Brooklyn Prince), in a secluded, eerie mansion situated in the rural landscape of Maine.
The children exhibit erratic emotions, making it challenging to engage with them pleasantly. Soon enough, Kate discovers that the mansion conceals a hidden darkness. A succession of peculiar occurrences indicates the presence of a maleficent spirit within their midst.
If the storyline seems reminiscent of “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” it’s because this popular Netflix show shares its inspiration with Henry James’ timeless classic.

Floria Sigismondi, a filmmaker of Italian-Canadian descent, helms the direction of “The Turning.” Known for penning and guiding Kristen Stewart’s performance in “The Runaways,” she also boasts an impressive resume directing music videos for notable artists such as Dua Lipa and Sam Smith.
Sadly, the movie received unfavorable feedback from critics upon its debut in 2020. Currently, it has a disappointing 12% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 103 reviews. Critics labeled it as “visually appealing yet confused” and an “ill-conceived adaptation of Henry James’ esteemed novel”.
If you’d rather revisit the originating material, you have the option to purchase the book on Amazon or listen to it without cost through Audible.

If you still want to give The Turning a chance, though, the movie will be on TV at midnight.
The Turning is airing tonight at 12am on BBC One.
