Stranger Things Star Maya Hawke Joins Hunger Games Prequel Cast, Internet Goes Wild

Over the past month, the latest Hunger Games movie titled Sunrise on the Reaping has been gradually revealing its cast. With each new actor’s name that is disclosed, our anticipation grows as we eagerly await one of the most highly-anticipated book adaptations. Just a day after learning who will be stepping into the role originally played by Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), another casting announcement has been made, and fans are forming their own unofficial fan club for the casting director.

Maya Hawke Is The Latest Actor To Be Cast In Sunrise On The Reaping

The latest actor to join Sunrise on the Reaping is Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke! The 26-year-old known for playing Robin on the Netflix phenomenon and voicing Anxiety in last year’s Inside Out 2 was revealed to be playing Wiress in the below Instagram announcement:

Apologies! It’s simply remarkable how flawless this casting choice is. However, over the last several weeks, the casting team has been announcing names that many fans, including myself, have been equally excited about.

If you haven’t seen or are not up-to-date with “Sunrise On The Reaping” or it’s been a while since you watched/read the Hunger Games, let me fill you in on Wiress – she was the District 3 tribute who emerged victorious in the 49th Hunger Games. This means she won just before Haymitch entered the arena. In “Sunrise on the Reaping” novel, we discover that she managed to win by concealing herself for much of the games and outsmarting the game creators using the discombobulating environment they designed that year.

In her games, Haymitch is paired as a mentor with Mags, which doesn’t sit well with him because she wasn’t required to fight in order to emerge victorious. For Wiress, Beetee served as her mentor during the games, a role that actor Kelvin Harrison Jr., known for his portrayal of Mufasa, assumes in this adaptation. It’s noteworthy that Amanda Plummer previously filled this role in “Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” when the character was once again chosen for the 75th Quarter Quell.

Fans Can’t Stop Talking About How Good The Casting Is Going For The New Hunger Games, And I Totally Agree

  • “ATE AND DEVOURED THIS CASTING TOO, LIKE YALL NEED A RAISE FOR THIS” – @cullenstwilight_
  • “I LOVE YOU CASTING DEPT” – @enjoyerbooks
  • “This casting director is great” – @seriallyblonde
  • “no one clocking in harder than the sotr casting director omfg” – @conversationswithkara
  • “everyone say thank u hunger games casting director” – @alliebell.a

As a devoted fan, I couldn’t agree more! Maya Hawke bears a striking resemblance to Amanda Plummer and she’s simply extraordinary in portraying quirky characters brimming with nervous energy. Indeed, Wiress is an eccentric character, even among the Hunger Games victors, with her unique label of “Nuts.” It’s thrilling to witness this talented actress taking on another significant role as we eagerly anticipate the arrival of Stranger Things Season 5.
