Stranger Things star hints at return of dead character in season 5

As a devoted fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the enigmatic world of Hawkins, I must admit that the prospect of Matthew Modine’s return as Dr. Martin Brenner in Stranger Things leaves me brimming with excitement. The thought of witnessing the complex dynamics between Brenner and Eleven unfold once more is akin to an irresistible siren call.

Actor Matthew Modine, who plays Dr. Brenner on “Stranger Things”, expresses his wish for a last visit to Hawkins during season 5, before the series concludes.

If you believe you’ve had your final encounter with Modine’s morally complex character Dr Martin Brenner, aka Papa, you might be correct. The scientist’s scene of death with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in chapter four, which debuted on Netflix in 2022, appears quite definitive.

In the series “Stranger Things”, it’s hard to know if any character is permanently gone. Actor Modine is hoping for another opportunity, as he shared during an interview with Vulture.

“No, I wouldn’t [say Brenner is dead],” the Full Metal Jacket star said.

He mentioned this as well, implying that he didn’t want Brenner to be deceased. In fact, he even speculated that Brenner might possess some extraordinary abilities of his own.

“Three things are curious to me: How did he survive the Demogorgon? How did he survive One?

When Eleven attempts to employ her abilities against Dr. Brenner following her explosion that sent three guards flying, he remains unfazed and counters her, saying, “Didn’t you think it would be this straightforward?” Unfortunately for her, she couldn’t make it function against him.

“Is there something more to Brenner than meets the eye?”

Most of all, Modine would like to offer his character some redemption before the grand finale.

Absolutely. I find it hard to accept that it’s finished, as I have a deep affection for the Duffers,” he expressed, explaining his unique connection with Brown, whom he had the honor of officiating at their wedding with Jake Bongiovi earlier this year.

I’m reluctant to accept that it’s finished, as I’m eagerly anticipating another collaboration with Millie. To be honest, I don’t have much connection with the other cast members, apart from Paul Reiser (Dr Sam Owens).

He added: “Obviously, the only children he tortured who are alive, that we know of, are Eleven and Kali. I guess Vecna, if there’s any saving One. It would be that moment of them forgiving Brenner and giving him their grace.”

It remains uncertain if Modine’s wish will come true. As for Brenner, it seems unlikely he’d be high on the list of characters fans would like to resurrect.

Fans of the hit series “Stranger Things” are still in shock over the selfless act of Eddie Munson, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, in season 4.

Even though he might not show up in round 5, the metalhead and Dungeons & Dragons game master will take center stage in a Stranger Things prequel comic book series called The Rise of Hellfire. This character will be our main focus.

Stream the first four seasons of “Stranger Things” on Netflix, with a sixth and concluding season currently in development. Meanwhile, immerse yourself in “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” live stage show, playing at the Phoenix Theatre in London until February 2025. Secure your tickets now!
