Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin pokes fun at the long wait for season 5
As a die-hard Stranger Things fan since its inception, I must say I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster these past few years. The wait for season 5 has felt like an eternity, but the recent progress in production has me more excited than ever!
It’s now more than two years since we last had new episodes of “Stranger Things”, and it looks like we’ll have to wait a while longer for the fifth and final season. Unfortunately, the production process hasn’t been straightforward; filming has faced numerous setbacks, primarily due to the 2023 WGA writers’ and SAG-AFTRA actors’ strikes.
Now, you’ll be thrilled to know that production is advancing marvelously. In July, Netflix unveiled a sneak peek from behind the scenes to commemorate the completion of half of season 5 filming. The sets are more expansive than before, and the characters who were once children have grown into adults. Take a look:
One persistent challenge with the series “Stranger Things” is that the actors are growing older at a faster rate than the narrative itself. For example, Caleb McLaughlin, who was 14 in season one, is now 22 as we approach the final season. This issue has affected many of the cast members, and the delays have compounded the challenge.
Instead of making fun of the fact that the cast is growing older, McLaughlin humorously shared an aging meme on Twitter about Season 5. He captioned it “Sneak peek of Season 5,” along with a picture showing himself, Sadie Sink and Maya Hawke looking much older. It seems like all those Upside Down adventures have had an impact: aged and wiser!

In season 5, you can anticipate larger-than-usual episodes, as they are essentially creating eight feature-length films. Maya Hawke (Robin) shared this on the Podcrushed podcast, stating that it serves as a continuation but also the conclusion, and it’s been quite some time since the last season ended.
In the fourth series of “Stranger Things”, there were nine episodes, with a lengthy finale spanning 144 minutes. For the upcoming final season, there will be one fewer episode, however, more extended episodes are on the horizon. As of now, Netflix has not specified an exact release date, but we do know that it’s scheduled to air in the year 2025.
As a devoted fan of the captivating series “Stranger Things,” I eagerly anticipate the new season, knowing that Brett Gelman’s portrayal of Murray Bauman will leave me spellbound once more. Having grown up watching conspiracy theories unfold on our TV screens, I can relate to the character’s intrigue and determination to uncover the truth. From the actor’s words in an interview with US Weekly, it’s evident that we are in for a treat – “It’s going great and it’s going to be amazing,” Gelman said. The fans’ excitement is palpable, and I wholeheartedly share in that anticipation, knowing that the creators of this masterpiece will not disappoint us.
