Stranger Things Season 5’s New Characters Risk Repeating Season 4’s Biggest Mistake

The upcoming fifth season of “Stranger Things,” set to air in fall 2025, could potentially replicate the primary flaw from season 4 when concluding this popular Netflix sci-fi series. Produced by the Duffer Brothers, the show is about a group based in 1980s Hawkins, Indiana, who stumble upon an alternate universe, monsters, and secretive government operations while growing up. Over nine years and five seasons, “Stranger Things” will come to an end, with the final episodes being divided into three volumes, released in November and December of 2025.

The upcoming season of Stranger Things will continue the story following the events of Season 4’s finale, where Eleven (Milly Bobby Brown) and her companions just managed to prevent Hawkins and the Upside Down from merging. After discovering the truth about their origins and encountering fellow telepath-turned-sinister villain Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower), now known as Vecna, she reconnected with her friends despite suffering heartbreaking losses during their hard-fought victory. Realizing the devastation left by Vecna’s plan, they know that their battle is far from finished.

Stranger Things Shouldn’t Give Too Much Screen Time To Season 5’s New Younger Teen Characters

The Season’s Plot Will Draw A New Generation Into Vecna’s Horror

In the upcoming fifth season of “Stranger Things,” it’s been revealed that there will be a time leap of at least a year since the events of season 4. This means that Hawkins, where we last left our characters, will have significantly changed. The town is dealing with rebuilding and mourning those who were lost during Vecna’s plot. Additionally, hints from the trailer for the final season suggest that the original group may be joined by a new team of younger followers. A quick glimpse in the trailer showed Mike Wheeler (played by Finn Wolfhard) shielding a group of young children from an unseen enemy.

Based on the increased presence and interaction suggested in set photos, it’s plausible that these new characters might be companions of Holly Wheeler, Mike’s younger sister. During filming, actress Nell Fisher was spotted on set with Bower, while Henry Creel transitioned into a more humanoid form in Hawkins. This suggests that Fisher will share significant scenes with the villain. Consequently, this could imply that Holly and this youthful group may find themselves in Vecna’s crosshairs due to his vengeance.

If new characters are given a more prominent role in Stranger Things season 5, there’s a risk that we might see a repetition of one of the previous seasons’ mistakes. One issue with season 4 was having too many characters in the cast, which often diverted attention from our beloved core characters. Given that some of these characters were essentially one-season additions, it’s crucial for season 5 to avoid repeating this mistake and maintain a balance between fresh faces and established favorites.

Stranger Things Season 4 Was Stretched Far Too Thin With Its Character Groups

Despite Bringing Them Together, A Large Cast Could Take Focus Away From The Ending

In many instances, characters introduced briefly in Stranger Things have made a lasting impression on viewers and gained popularity among fans. Some of these characters, like Maya Hawke’s Robin, were later promoted to main roles. Given this trend, it’s no surprise that the Duffer Brothers might be eager to grow the cast as they approach the series finale.

Stranger Things season 5 is under considerable expectation to wrap up the series in a fitting manner, resolving any lingering questions for a worthy conclusion. To meet these expectations, the focus should be on the central characters of the show’s lore and providing them with a memorable farewell. So far, season 5 has avoided repeating season 4’s mistakes by keeping the core cast in one location rather than scattered across different parts of the country. Now, it is crucial for each character to have their moment in the spotlight.
