The creators of Stranger Things recently released a new scene from the final part of season 5, revealing how the characters respond to Will Byers discovering his surprising abilities. The first part of season 5 concluded with the Demogorgons launching an attack.
Suddenly, Will discovered he had powers and used them to fight off the monsters. He wiped the blood from his nose, a reaction reminiscent of Eleven whenever she overuses her abilities.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the final part of Stranger Things season 5, the Duffer Brothers shared a new clip from the upcoming episodes. The clip shows Joyce Byers explaining the need to bring Will near the hive mind, as Will, Lucas, Robin, Mike, Erica, and Murray listen intently.
Instead of fighting the Demogorgon, the new plan is for Will to confront Vecna. “One hit is all it will take to defeat him, his army, and finally end this whole ordeal,” she stated.
Joyce explained the plan and felt pleased with how it was received, then opened the floor to questions or suggestions. She encouraged everyone to share their thoughts, saying, “There are no bad ideas.” While Robin said the plan was good, it was obvious she had reservations. Murray seemed to feel the same way, offering an awkward agreement.
Robin was amazed and asked Will if he’d actually defeated a Demogorgon using only his mind. Mike and Lucas quickly jumped in to explain that it wasn’t just one, but three Demogorgons at the same time. Murray, clearly shocked, exclaimed, “Well, I’ll be!”
Robin playfully calls Will a “real-life wizard,” but Erica quickly points out he’s actually a “sorcerer” because his abilities are something he’s born with. This distinction was highlighted in the Stranger Things season 5 episode titled “Sorcerer.” The group gets caught up in debating the difference between the terms, and Joyce interrupts, urging them to stay focused. Before revealing a sneak peek, the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, spoke with Jimmy Fallon about the show’s incredible popularity. Fallon let them hint at what will happen in the last four episodes by using Funko Pop collectibles.
Matt and Ross organized their collectible figures, placing Will on top of Henry Creel and Vecna above him. They put Eleven’s Funko Pop in a glass of water, and Steve Harrington was positioned on the edge of the desk—eventually falling off, playfully assisted by the Duffer brothers.
Okay, so as a viewer, I’m totally being led to believe Steve Harrington is a goner. The Duffer Brothers are really playing up his potential death. But honestly? I’m starting to think it’s a misdirect. They might be making us focus on Steve to distract us from the real way this whole series is going to wrap up. It feels like a classic red herring, and I’m now wondering if Steve surviving is actually key to the ending.
Okay, so before we find out what happens to Steve, the group has to put their plan to stop Vecna into action – Joyce lays it all out in the latest clip. It’s not going smoothly, though. Everyone wants to help, but they’re kind of stuck on Will and what’s going on with his abilities, honestly. It’s like Vecna is important, but Will’s powers are totally grabbing everyone’s attention.
Joyce’s plan sounds straightforward, but things rarely go as planned, especially on this show. Defeating Vecna won’t be easy for these beloved Stranger Things characters, but they have to try. First, however, they need to come to terms with Will’s surprising abilities.
The final part of Stranger Things season 5 will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, December 25th, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
